2014-2016: gtx 960 2GB
2016-present: gtx 1080 8GB

S3 ViRGE 325 2MB (PCI) - Free/Included
ATi 3D RAGE Pro 8MB (AGP) - Free/Included
Nvidia MX 4000 128MB (AGP) - Gift - $100 (to the buyer)
Nvidia Ti-4200 128MB (AGP) - Free
ATi HD3850 512MB (AGP) - $275 USD (second tier GPU from flagship)
Nvidia 8800 GYS 320MB (PCIe) - Long term loan.
Nvidia 7200gs 128MB (PCIe) - Free
ATi HD2400 Pro 256MB (PCI) - Free
ATi HD4890 1GB (PCIe) - $199.99 USD (Flagship class at time of purchase, comparable to todays 3090/6900xt)
ATi HD5770 1GB (PCIe) - Free
AMD HD7870 1GB (PCIe) - $250 USD (fourth rate card at time of purchase)
Nvidia GTX 295 1.7GB (PCIe, 2x GPU single card SLI) - 30$ usd
Nvidia GTX 650 2GB (PCIe) - 25$ USD
Nvidia GTX 960 4GB (PCIe) - Free gift
Nvidia GTX 670 4GB (PCIe) - 75$ USD
AMD Vega 64 8GB (PCIe) - 400 USD
AMD Radeon RX6800 16GB (PCIe) - $750 USD (total with tax, Aib markup, and 2x shipping).

I can pretty solidly say that I felt I got great value for the 3850 (as an AGP card, which was higher cost vs PCIe counterpart), 4890 and Vega64. For the cost the 7870 was OK, but I think it should have been a 199.99 card and not 250. Likewise for the cost, I think the 6800 should be closer to 500, maybe 550 as its base price, which is still lower than the 580 they start at (before all the markups).

I think GPU's were faily priced around the HD4/5k and GTX5xx-7xx era. After that they started to get a bit bonkers. Today its bad enough to make consoles seem fairly decent in price:performance ratio, which is a sad thing to say in PC gaming. Video card makers (or more precisely Aib's and vendors) are pricing themselves out of relevancy. If it were not for me knowing someone who hooked me up at (mostly) retail price I would have not bothered this gen. If prices stay insane and consoles cintue a good showing it might be enough to jump next gen. Might.

Alot but some of those were faulty and returned for upgrades.

ATI 9550 and Nvidia FX 5200 (mid 2000) got stuck with these for 4 years, couldn't afford any upgrades during this time.
2009 onwards.
Sapphire HD 4890
XFX HD 5870
Sapphire HD 6850 Crossfire
Sapphire HD 6970 Crossfire (first custom waterloop) then added in a Gigabyte HD 6970 Windforce 3 for triple Crossfire second-hand. Was Bitcoin mining at the time (about 8 months) pulling 1 GHs.
Sapphire R9 280X Crossfire
Sapphire R9 290 Crossfire second-hand (watercooled)
Sapphire R9 390X Crossfire
Gigabyte GTX 1080 second-hand (water-cooled)
Asus Strix RX Vega 64 Crossfire (watercooled)
Gigabyte Radeon VII (watercooled)
Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC

As you can see I like using Sapphire cards and water cooling.

In my case, not a lot, despite a long list (which isn't even all inclusive of the GPUs I've used).

GeForce 4 MX 440 w/AGP 8x 64 MB - Came with my first PC which I did not purchase
ATi Rage 128 Pro 16MB AGP - Came with the used PC (Spent $100 for it total)
PNY GeForce 4 Ti 4200 w/AGP 8x 64 MB - Spent around $20 to $25 on this used on eBay when the GeForce 6 series/Radeon 9000 series was the newest lineups
ATi Radeon 9700 - Was loaned to me (this was ATi's high point to me/The FX series was nVidia's worst point)
Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (Intel i865 onboard) - No cost
PNY GeForce 6800 GS AGP 256 MB - Spent around $100 for this used on eBay
MSI GeForce 8600 GTS OC 256 MB - Taking a huge guess here, but this was maybe around $200
MSI GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB - $200 to $250, this card was crazy; nVidia made the ENTIRE rest of it's own lineup outside of the 8800 Ultra irrelevant with the launch of this one card[www.anandtech.com] and it was probably the last time that happened as prices starting bloating with the few GTX x00 (hundreds) series that followed
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1 GB - A gift, and rising GPU prices were why I stayed with the GeForce 8800 GT and only upgraded because it was given to me; sadly prices not only didn't get better later but kept getting worse
PNY GeForce GTX 650 1 GB - Around $70 new from Best Buy, definitely not fast but a decent price at the time (The GeForce 900 series was a fresh launch) for something that was good enough; my nephew still uses it today
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4 GB - Whatever it was going for new at the time but I ended up returning it and getting a full refund and buying the above instead
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB - $260 in 2016 and I'm using it today

The standout purchase to me is definitely the GeForce 6800 GS AGP. The GeForce 7 series was out, but finding the high end series from just last generation for $100 would be unheard of today (so I really don't know why people praise the RTX 3000 series for pricing when the xx60 tier GPU is now $400 and the $500 xx70 tier GPU is called "good value"; prices are still just getting worse...). Not only that, but it's when I was well into being interested in PCs but still had a much older/weaker hardware (Pentium III with SDRAM and a GeForce 4 Ti), so getting a Pentium 4 with that special 1 GB amount of DDR and that GeForce 6800 gave me an up to date PC that could actually play the latest games and at high settings. It wasn't an AMD (Intel and the Pentium 4 was so bad at that time), and it was just a Dell and not anything custom, but I still have fond memories of that point.

Let me recall.

2011 GTX 560 ti
2013 GTX 670
2014 GTX 670 - for sli
2016 GTX 970 and gt 710. The 710 was for a non gaming linux machine.
2017 GTX 1070
2018 - GTX 1070 develops errors. Take back to shop. With store credit and a little more cash get GTX 1080 ti
2019 the craptastic gt 1030 DDR4 - a replacement for the gt 710

The GTX 1080 ti is still doing fairly well. Now is it not possible to buy an upgraded card from that.

I'd not include the year simply because I can't remember them, tho I'd gotten my cards more or less at launch.

486 (whateven integrated GPU it had)
nVidia Riva TNT2
GF 2 MX400 (not 100% sure, only thing I'm certain was that it was a GF2)
Abit GF4 4200 Ti
ATi 9700 Pro
ATi 9800 Pro
nVidia GF 6800 GT
nVidia GF 6800 Ultra (MSI)
GF GX 7950 GX2
HD 2900XT x2 (CF mode)
HD 3970 + HD 3870 (TriFire)
HD5870 x2 (CF Mode)
HD 6970 (Might have CF'ed this too, not 100% sure)
HD 7970 x2 (CF Mode)
R9 290X x2 (CF Mode, main rig)
Asus GTX Titan x2 (SLi, 2nd rig)
Gigabyte RX VEGA64 Gaming OC x2 (Main rig)
PowerColor RX VEGA64 Red Devil (2nd rig, still in 2nd rig)
Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800 (main rig)
Sapphire RX 6900 XT (Main rig, replaces RX 6800)

That's all the cards I can remember, pretty sure I may have missed one or two because, well, getting kinda old and the memory ain't so good any more.

Been gaming on PC since 1993 so cant remember the dates or all the cards as I run multiple PCs but I know it goes some like this in reverse order.

GTX 2080 Ti
GTX 980 Ti
GTX 980
GTX 560
GTX 550 ti
GTX 460
GTX 260
GTX 8800 Ultra
Radeon 9700
GeForce 2 Ti

Way to long ago to remember what it was other than it was a 1 meg (yes..1 meg) graphics card.

There's more I think

All I know now is, it's going to be more years between upgrades from here on in.

Wow, the nForce chipsets and motherboards from that time, that takes me back. Remember DFI? I wish they were still around. I remember back then I wanted a custom AMD-based build with one of those motherboards. Specifically, around the time they were doing the Black PCB with the Orange and Yellow for everything else. I want to say this was nForce 3 and nForce 4 days during the socket 754 and socket 939 years.
