Some games work, others don't on SSD
I've been downloading games on a brand new Samsung T7 1TB, and some games download just fine (Destiny 2, Hotline Miami, some from the Epic store), but others on Steam (Mirror's Edge, Apex) just freeze the app completely when I try to download them and then my computer will cease to work properly until I unplug the SSD
Obviously, this would seem to be an issue with the drive, but it wasn't even a week old when this problem started. Any help or tips would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance.

If you had an SSD install it to there and then go to steam settings and move it over properly. As hard drives cant keep up with windows 10.

But strange. it should install. Also go check how full the hard drive is incase you installed more than you listed.

Third answer. It can be a counter fit hard drive depending on where you bought it from.

External drives are not recommended for use with steam. Make sure the drive is booted up before launching steam.

Steam could just be taking quite a while to Pre-Allocate the data as most other game clients do not use such methods. When its on Pre-Allocation process, do not click around or do anything on the PC, wait until this process is done. Now in some instances, I've found it takes a long time, sometimes its an issue with Steam Servers. If it takes more then 2-5 minutes on an SSD, click Cancel and then click Install again. If going to make proper use of any External SSD, make sure its running off of USB 3.1 or 3.2, never 3.0 as on 3.0 it will never be able to function at the proper response times or speeds.

Also make sure to go to Device Manager and disable Power Management for USB ports/hubs and if available, within Properties of such connected devices as well. Also disable the "HDD Sleep Timer" in whatever Power Options Profile you have set in Windows OS within Control Panel. To avoid secondary drives from entering sleep power mode after that drive has been idle for the length of time set by this HDD Timer, which effects ANY drive that is connected to the system as a secondary drive.
