Finding a genuine Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver in 2021
I know that the controller itself is old and that I'd probably be better off buying a newer controller altogether, but I got one of those rare-ish Xbox 360 wireless controllers with the transforming D-pad for 60$ a year and a half ago, brand-new, and since then I was using my (by-now) 6 year-old Wireless Receiver for PC to connect it to there.
But now, the cable for the receiver has probably been cut from the inside and is failing to respond, leaving me with plastic vegetable of a controller and no other choice than to search for a new receiver.
Problem is, I can't find it anywhere. My local stores don't have it, Amazon doesn't have it, searching for the product on Google leaves me with indefinitely out-of-stock results, etc. etc. Even the dreaded ebay has next to no results, to the point where it's easier to buy a 20+ year-old Sidewinder there than an until-now widely-used accessory.

Solder on a new USB cable to the receiver, very easy and cheap to do.
In older Gaming PCs I used to just connect this receiver inside the PC Chassis and this way it's always there.

You can find them on Ebay and Amazon if you do need a genuine replacement.

I do know someone with experience in electronics, and since it's just a cut-off USB cable I'm sure I could just send the thing to him for repair.

No I wouldn't cut the cord, instead remove the sticky rubber feet on the bottom of the receiver, undo the screws and open it up and attach a new USB cable. The cable inside should be soldered to the small PCB that makes up the receiver itself, you can use a standard Data-Sync Male to Female USB Type-A cable as a replacement, then cut off the female end and properly solder the wire ends to the receiver PCB.

I'll keep that in mind.
