Are old used gaming laptops worth it anymore?
I'm talking about old laptops that has an Intel gen 7s with Nvidia 900mx series, asking because I want to buy a reasonable laptop used or new without breaking the bank too much. Most of the laptops I saw online sells for about 60% of their original value while the more recent ones with an Gtx16xx, even though used still cost an outstanding 80-90% of their original value IF I even manage to find one used. Should I get the newer laptop or the older one or just wait under this whole covid blows over and hope laptop prices go down again?

You would at least want a second generation maxwell gpu (example: gtx965m) to be supported by dx12 fully. Don't get a new one unless it has a 5000 series ryzen mobile and a rtx3000 series.

they are fine if you wanna play older non demanding games
keep a cooling pad under it at all times ..and do not expect great 1080 P performance .. 720 P and adjust your settings lower ....you may get by fine

also when getting any used laptop make sure you wanna invest in a new battery , as yes with used laptops , you may need to replace the battery ..as laptop batteries only take so many charge cycles then they do.... yes need to be replaced and some are expensive

so that's another thing you wanna keep in mind

or use it as htpc, if its an old laptop, its battery may be useless or unable to charge
keep it plugged in, will be much better than apps on smart tvs
get a wireless k/m combo

the mx cards were never designed for gaming anyway
good enough to do light video encoding tasks better than the intel hd
With the pandemic, laptops were one of the commodities that became highly sought, so it's been impacting prices of the used ones and availability of the lower end ones. It might be a bit better now (I don't tend to watch laptops) but if used prices are that high, it's probably part of why. A lot of PC hardware in general (GPUs, some CPUs, PSUs at one point and maybe still now, etc.) is suffering availability/pricing issues right now.
