Shock mount question - Are they enough to remove vibrations without attaching it to the wall.
Hello there.

I recently purchased a Yeti Microphone with plans of buying a microphone scissor arm to stop picking up vibes from the keyboard and PC and attaching it to the wall. Sadly, it doesn't seem many arms reach as far as I need (100cm+) unless im willing to spend £150+
I've looked into a boom mic stand but i don't think I have the room. So, i've decided to go with a third party desk stand but add a shock mount to it.

While that set up would be perfect for my needs I was just wondering would a shock mount be enough to completely remove the typing vibrations + the tower vibrations etc. Some people say yes and others say you need it (the stand/mic arm) attached to something other than your desk even with a shock mount.

Does anybody know? Thanks for your help in advance :)

I have literally just ordered my microphone and boom set up so i have no actual information, but considering that the reason for a shock mount is to ''absorb'' the knocks and bangs and what not then i am guessing it will do a decent job at it, if you attach it to the wall, then there will be less for it to ''absorb'' so technically it may be better, personally i am attaching myn to the back of my desk on a RODE PSA1, and ill see how it goes, it only has a 820mm Horizontal reach though, so probs no good for you.
