Best SSD type for a GA-78LMT-USB3?
I'm looking to add an SSD on my system and install Win10 on it and gradually move everything over to that. I was thinking about building a whole new tower but that's gonna have to wait until next holiday season. So yeah which SSD type would work best with a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard? Probably gonna go with one with 2TB of storage.

Thanks!

you'll be limited to sata 3 speed so, go to newegg, SSD section and click the sata 3 filter, get the biggest one you can afford :steamhappy:

Even the worst SATA SSD will be limited by that motherboard. PIck whatever is cheapest.

any sata ssd

that board is just crap tho
7xx chipset is designed for aii/pii cpus and modded firmware to run fx at nerfed specs

save up for a modern cpu/mobo/ram combo
then get a m.2 nvme ssd that those boards will support

Oh that's right it's gotta work with my current board as well as the obviously much better one that I will be getting in the future.

I remember that one, was free from microcenter with the FX-6300 - good times!

Check out the Silicon Power 2TB SSD 3D NAND A55 SLC Cache[www.amazon.com] not bad for $175, probably the best bet for 2Tb capacity

get a 500g sata ssd, its big enough for windows and a few games

then save up for a newer cpu/mobo/ram and fast ssd

And it will work perfectly with whatever my much newer and much better motherboard will be?

work, yes

but the newer mobo will support m.2 ssd which are over 2-4x faster

1TB su800, WD blue or mx500 either are cheapish and do well.

Kingston a400 is dirt cheap but not for an OS drive imho they're fairly crappy for that , I've got two.

Well I guess I could just go with a 500mb SATA for this computer. Transfer everything over. Plug it into my new one in a year-ish from now. Unload everything. Then plug it back into this one for when I got to sell it.

So this will work right?

yes absolutely, even if you get a cheap A400 or whatever cheapo sata ssd you use now easy to use it dedicated to games on your brand-new M2 NVME system once you get it all setup with windows 10 and whatnot

This one looks perfect for what I need. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Kingston-SSDNow-A400-480GB-SATA-6Gb-s-SSD-Solid-State-Drive-SA400S37-480G/735683349

EDIT:Oh just thought of something. When I install windows 10 on this machine doing a straight transfer over to my eventual new one will work or could I just install Windows 10 on the new one with the same key?
