Is i5 650 good enough for gaming?

I have an i5 650 and gtx 1050 TI but i struggle sometimes with games so im not sure if this is good enough. The most intensive games i play often is probably overwatch but most of my gaming is source games (TF2, L4D2, CS:GO).

It can game, but it's definitely not going to be very good in modern titles above 60 FPS. What would be holding you back in those games though is your GPU more than anything. The i5 shows its age a lot nowadays when compared to modern CPUs like the i5-10400 and i3-10100.

I'd recommend upgrading to more modern specs, such as a Ryzen 5 1600 AF (or 2600, both require an AM4 motherboard like B450 chipset), 16GB DDR4-3200 CL16, and the best GPU you can afford. It would be a huge step up from what you have now, and those mentioned parts can be bought for a pretty good price.

OK I can only afford probably not a huge upgrade and for only 1 thing right now so what should i upgrade? In the games im mostly playing it seems CPU usage sometimes goes up to 100% (I use VSync at 60fps) so i think i should upgrade that.

There's nothing on that socket worth buying due to its age. You'd be better off saving up until you can start fresh with a new system if your CPU is often reaching 100% usage WITH V-Sync locking FPS to 60.

Nowadays, modern CPUs locked to 60 won't often reach 100% while gaming unless it's something like an Atom or Celeron.

fist gen i5 is not much better than amd aii/pii/fx
650 is dual core with ht
its slower than the newer lowest pentium g cpus

it will work for source games but dont expect it to hold 60fps

Whole new PC, unless you don't plan on playing any demanding games and stick to older titles and e-sports. A 1050 Ti would be fine for those games for still a few more years.

A GPU upgrade will yield results, but mostly in averages or maximums (and even these may be held back) whereas minimums will remain, so it might not be as pleasant of an increase.

Those seem to be Source engine games, which are typically CPU limited, but at the same time, run rather well on some aged CPUs.

In a broad sense, or for demanding games, it'd be considered behind times, especially if not overclocked and paired with a lower RAM quantity that was normal in its time (like 4 GB, but even 8 GB is considered too little for some newer titles).

K10 was struggling against the Core 2 series at times (especially in IPC and/or if overclocking is taken into account), let alone first generation Core i series.

If you need an upgrade from the CPU and wanna save money then you should get the i3-9100F or the i5-9400F.

If you need an upgrade from the GPU and save a little bit of money then you should get the GTX 1650 Super.

If you want a GPU that performs a bit better, Then you should consider getting the GTX 1660 Super or GTX 1660 Ti.

Check the games you want to play and look what CPU/Gpu they need as minimum and as optimal. And then compare the Passmark points. The passmark score is not perfect but its only one value you can easy compare

Just save up for a new system, use the 1050 Ti in it.

Your struggle will only worsen as time goes on with that CPU
