Is i5 650 good enough for gaming?
I have an i5 650 and gtx 1050 TI but i struggle sometimes with games so im not sure if this is good enough. The most intensive games i play often is probably overwatch but most of my gaming is source games (TF2, L4D2, CS:GO).

24gb of gddr6x, you are set for many years to come. Watch 8gb and 10gb VRAM become a lackluster in a year.
My brother has a worse GPU in his system and it runs half life alyx all good and also I probably wont be doing VR or many hard to run games.

Or save up and buy an XBox Series X or a PS5. That's probably the best gaming solution for a very tight budget.
I don't want a console though one game which struggles to run even at 50 FPS is GMod and that isn't on console and I don't want to rebuy all my games that will just add up to probably over a $100. I also don't enjoy playing games with controllers.

It looks like the i5-650 might be able to do 60 fps overwatch. Look at the games settings and tweaking videos on youtube. Some settings might be resource hogs. Watch temperatures if your cpu is being used a lot it might be thermal throttling?

Maybe also look at windows 10 optimization guides. Shut some stuff off etc... Windows performance options will probably help a bit.

Look in task manager and see whats running and whats in start up programs.

In the end upgrading the cpu/ram/mainboard would be the next step.

For some other games you could try geforce now but it uses a lot of data per hour which might lead to problems/overage charges. There's also stadia and amazon Luna but I don't think there's free versions and they might make you buy the games again?

You might also be able to buy a used office pc and pop the video card in but that could be a nightmare. I would buy from a very reputable reseller. Depending on the area you might get one for $60. There's caveats though depending on what you buy. Instruction sets for the cpu, ecc ram, cooling, proprietary power supplies and connectors or lack thereof, bios with limits, only some video cards might work, space for the gpu to fit, etc...
Thanks for the help. I don't have anything to check the heat though.
Also people please stop sending me links to buy stuff since it won't ship to Australia so I have to find somewhere my self either way.

Star Citizen when it comes out will eat more than 15gb of VRAM.

Dont you mean RAM?

No. But anyways. Hope my RTX 3080 can tackle this game.

Seriously doubt it. In any case, GDDR6X increases the bandwidth a fair bit so even "only" 10 GB on a 3080 should be plenty enough.

Games are optimized for the average gamers' rig anyway. The average gamer doesn't have a 3080. A 3090 even less.

Also... well... IF SC ever gets released!

pcpartpicker might have an Au region. It might show you some retailers. You'll still have to do some checking because some hardware companies might deny you warranty from certain sellers.

You can look at temperatures with msi afterburner. You'll need to look at the graph. Click detach on the main start up thing. I think cpu temperature is there by default?

Msi afterburner. You'll need to install the riva tuner thing so don't uncheck the box during installation.

You'll need to enable the onscreen display for each thing you want:

go to settings (click on the cog/circle with pokey lines sticking out of it)

go to monitoring tab

click on the check mark by gpu temperature and select from below show in on screen display (if you can't then click on the gpu temperature check mark one more time)

do this for cpu temperature (not 1, 2, 3 etc... just the unnumbered one), memory clock, core clock

press apply and press ok to exit.

then start the game

Also on the main screen at the top of the graph you can click on detach to see the graphs better. You can add and monitor stuff there also.

The components are the same everywhere on the world.
The prices differ
The availabilty differs.

But finally you have a rough idea what you can look for

Maybe its better to teach you fising instead of giving you fish

Check your current hardware performance. And then go down this lists and see if you find hardware your trader has and with the Price you are willed to pay. (and that has at minimum 30% more points than your existing hardware)

Thanks BTW this wasn't meant to be me asking what i should upgrade to it was me asking if my CPU is good enough for gaming

Its fine to an EXTENT
Depends on the game, and depends on how much RAM you have.

But in all, youd be better off saving up for an update
