Pc case making creaking like noise when off from time to time
Hey guys rebuild my pc with new parts around july but i noticed sometimes when the comp is off and its sitting a while ill hear a tick, pop,to creaking..almost like old floor boards in a quite house etc...

Havnt noticed any weird temps etc but the cause is 4 years old...thoughts? And thanks to the community in advance!

So due to thermal expanstion everything should be ok? Nothing breaking in the case etc?

Just a little odd hearing that noise etc..
Its fine and quite normal. Most don't even notice because they turn computer off and leave the room so are not there when it's cooling down.

thermal expansion
different materials expand at different rates and cool at different times

ps/xbox do that when powered on for a few hours then turned off
right ive heard the consoles do it a few times

But i mean my pc..so everythings fine though right?

This does happen to ppls pcs sometimes right?

I have an old PC case ~12 years old ever since I did new parts in the last year; it happens more than half an hour after powerdown, did surprise me when it started happening. More in colder days of winter.

Everything is fine since the partial hardware change; its just noise and a natural consequence of thermodynamics.

As long as its not much louder than a bubble wrap pop, not happening in rapid succession it should be fine. Rapid contraction/expansion is of concern, but as long as its gradual there should be minimal stress that is just part of operating any standard computer.

Like your post said; sounds like an old house settling, and its kind of like that.

Never heard my PC do this, but I've heard my monitor do it. As others said it's likely from expansion/contraction of the housing (plastic, or whatever it may be) and it's not harmful really.
It happens to my monitor too, I just give it a tap, and it usually fixes it for a while. Kind of annoying, but no issues.

Yes and yes, don't worry.
