Plus, the pre-order page says it is compatible with SteamVR and WMR.
That suggests to me that it is similar to the Valve Index.

To the OP, I have seen a lot of posts from HP Reverb G2 owners on the Steam forums claiming they can sometimes play games that don't explicitly claim support for Windows Mixed Reality on the Steam store page.
I have also noticed a lot of users complain about bad support for their VR headset even in some cases where the Steam store page indicates a given game supports that VR headset.
I suggest checking with the people on the Steam forums for the VR game you're looking at to verify if the VR support for HP Reverb G2 is good before buying a game for it -- or else looking at the Steam reviews for the game.. where users will sometimes either praise the game for supporting their VR headset well, or complain about the VR game for not providing adequate support for their VR headset.
