MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSoD when installing games
I have a Windows 10 computer, and for a while now (over a month) it's been bluescreening when installing games, especially big ones (e.g. Hitman 2016, Hitman 2, Danganronpa V3, anything 10+GB) with the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT stopcode, sometimes even by just having Steam open in the background.
I've tried running sfc, chkdsk on both my HDDs, Memory Diagnostics tool, and nothing changed.

I've narrowed it down to either
1. something in the steam installs messes up the system files;
2. my hdd with system files (can't afford an ssd atm) is starting to give up (it's like 3 years old now);
and/or 3. some physical damage happened to the hdd, but I find that rather unlikely given how careful I am around my pc.

Besides the bluescreens with the same stopcode, I've had a severe slowdown with booting up my pc and when opening programs, as well as a few times having (almost) all my browser settings reset (saved passwords deleted, settings reset to default, etc. while somehow keeping the bookmarks, extensions and open tabs).

I've run out of ideas on what to do. If anyone is able to help, I'll be very thankful.

If it helps anything, my specs are:
CPU: Intel i5-6400 @2.7GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB
RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance DDR4 8GB (running at apparently 1200MHz)
PSU: GBT (apparently cheap unknown local brand) 500W
HDDs: Seagate Barracuda 1TB and 2TB

Sorry Snakub, didn't realize this post was that old - didn't pay attention as I have been fighting this for weeks and just came upon this post in steam, and just started typing. Yes, CPU and RAM - everything is brand new - complete new computer excepting the case. I have not run memtest86 yet, though I did run the windows memory test - never got a report for some reason, ending up having to reboot. Memtest86 is my next try to resolve the issue. My ability is I have been building computers for over 30 years with as much time in IT. I have never come upon an issue like this, so I guess I am just a bit frustrated. I have cleaned the registry, using ccleaner real quick, I have checked all HDD with WD diags, and the drives are good, as they should be as they are 2 weeks old. All voltages on the MB are good, as well the RAM. But, anyway, thanks for the reply.
reset bios to defaults, enable xmp

check for a bios update
get all the correct drivers from mobo mfg site, and gpu driver from nvidia
I'd recommend checking HCI MemTest or Karhu Ram Rest which can be run in windows to find those intermittent ram issues which memtest86 will likely miss especially in situations where you post fine but then get a bsod at some point.

Easy to find a guide for the free version of memtest to set it up and I'd test to about 600% to really be sure no issues with ram.

@ _i_ - all that has been completed. Am almost finished with a monster windows update - I am assuming WIN 11.

@ Raoul - Thanks for these - that is exactly what is happening - post fine - then random stopcode error.

As an aside, so far, after running ccleaner - my machine - with Steam running, has not crashed as yet - been over an hour. Installing BL3 from steam currently and it crashed 3 times prior to running ccleaner and has not crashed yet. When done installing BL3 I am going to see if it does crash before rebooting after the windows update as that game has consistently crashed my machine. After the game crashes, if I say, go to Firefox, it would crash in the middle of loading Firefox or watching a video, etc. Thanks again for your help !!
Download WhoCrashed and analyze the crash logs, itll give you a better idea of whats causing it, as previously mentioned RAM/Pagefile and PSU tend to be the most common causes for the error.
Thanks CJ - did that this morning and found some items, which didn't help. I also downloaded Advanced System Repair Pro tool, ran that, and found tons of problems. However, the one that stood out the most was a malware infection called Variant.Symmi in 3 Steam files. Steam.exe, SteamHelper.exe, and 1 other one I cannot remember as the info disappeared before I could get it written down. I am about to scan the entire steam folder with my Anti-Virus to see if it will remove it, otherwise I will have to wait for Steam devs to fix the issue, whenever that may be. I don't seem to crash when I am playing Wreckfest for example, but have not played for more than a half hour. Anyway, I will update this as I figure stuff out. It is strange as I am getting a similar problem on my original computer as well, which is what prompted my to end up building this new machine, only to have the same problem. Thanks for the suggestion!
Never heard of it, those "infections" are likely false positives, i wouldnt remove anything Steam related as it may make you need to reinstall it which may remove any installed games not on a separate drive.

Malwarebytes is recommended for malware scanning

For "System Repairs" Advanced System Care by iObit is recommended
Thanks CJ, yes, I figured it was a false positive as MBAM didn't see it, nor Trend Micro. I have never had an issue like this. It really seems like after I install new WIN10 and install AV, reboot, things seem to work fine - I just installed new last night and left the machine on all night - woke up this morning and system is still good. Firefox installed and running fine. I re-installed Steam and BL3 last night as well - all seems good. It just seems like when I do the first round of Windows updates, that is when all hell breaks loose on the system. Memory seems good. Ran the windows memory diagnostics and they all passed. Haven't gotten memtest86 yet. I ordered a new MB this morning - will get that tomorrow, just to see if there is an issue with the MB. I just dl's Advanced System Care and will run that shortly to see if it sees anything. I will update this post in a day or so after the new hardware gets here. Thanks again.

Just a little tip, you can find ASC Pro serials on Youtube, just find the ones that list the serial in the video description NOT the ones that need you to download a crack. And yes they are legal, they are giveaway keys and the like.
Thanks for this CJ - I ran it once already and it cleaned up some stuff, but left some critical items - I was thinking of getting it - but this is even better. Thanks!
Well, I got on the phone with MSI as it seems the MB works semi-OK (still crashed with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT when system is stressed, ie; Photoshop/BL3), with just 2 DIMM's installed., so got online with MSI and we seemed to determine the DIMM slots may be bad. Ordered ASUS MB overnight to test the memory/CPU will be good (hopefully NOT the CPU) and if the new MB works fine - then I will get the MSI MB replaced. I will update in the next day or so. I won't get the new MB until this afternoon.
Turns out the motherboard had issues that were intermittent - getting it replaced. CPU/Memory/HDD all tested fine using Intel Processor Diagnostic/Memtest86/WD Dashboard. Thanks to you all for the help. I appreciate it immensely and hopefully I will not have to talk to any of you again :-) Again, thank you for the help.
Glad it worked out
ASC is still a good thing to run now and then though so its worth keeping
Thanks CJ - already have it as part of my testing resources. Thanks again for all your help, and you have a great rest of your day!
