Mechanical keyboards and dust
Are mechanical keyboards better at handling dust than traditional style keyboards? I live in a naturally quite dusty environment. I'm looking at a few and the buttons are raised with a decent gap inbetween so you would think so right? I'm still using a 15 year old emachines keyboard btw.

afaik there's not much of a difference, though mechanical does feel better and last longer as far as switches are concerned

all you need to do for dust with any keyboard is just periodically use an electric air duster (not canned compressed air, it's worse for the environment and expensive over time)

They are a pain to keep clean But they are the best for me

Besides Flipping the keyboard upside down few times a day will also do the trick :)

good luck

If the dust is that bad you can get IP rated keyboards that are designed to be used in industrial/medical enviorments that you can literally rinse in the sink. Cherry also sells silicone membrane covers for some of it's boards.

To be honest unless you are using a power sander around your board on a daily basis a decent keyboard will be fine with a regular hover or blast with an air can/compressor.

I can't say I've noticed a difference with dust with my mechanical keyboards.
But I don't live in an area that's dusty.

With regular cleaning, I don't see it being an issue at all.

yes, mech keyboards are ok with dust
dust cannot enter the mech switch easily it it has keycaps

membrane are also very dust resistant since the top rubber dome piece is continuous over the entire keyboard

either can be easily taken apart and cleaned if its dusty
