Helpful Advice Please :)
I currently have:

Case: https://rog.asus.com/us/desktops/mid-tower/rog-strix-gl12-series/

Dimensions of case: (H x W x D ) 7.0 x 15.7 x 18.0 inch

Power supply: Will upgrade to ASUS ROG THOR 1200W

Chipset: Intel Z390

Current Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 8gb

I am hoping for any help in what I need to buy besides upgrading power supply and if the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3090 Founders Edition will fit my case?

Okay... getting closer lol. Now, with my given dimensions above. Whats my case size and how much space will it have?

Well the cases total dimensions look to be 7 inches wide, it's unlikely you'll fit a card thst with power cables in, is going to be a good 6 1/2 inches wide in it given the motherboard / standoffs and space behind the motherboard tray is likely to be more than half an inch, best bet is to go measure how much space you have now, or how wide your existing card is, or, go Google its dimensions, failing that, tell us its model so we can Google it for you....

The case is no where near big enough, its not long enough or deep enough abd there's no way to vertical mount it either, I am afraid, you need a new case, but, that's a good thing, as that case is kind of bad / out dated design wise

Okay, so I will come to terms that I need a new case. However, I am wondering .... do you think the GPUs will maintain the same dimensions as the 3090? I wonder if they will just keep getting bigger lol.

Now I am looking at :

This should be big enough for anything ?

What do you recommend ?

Would it hurt anything to have overkill?

No. The psu draws what it needs. Efficiency on modern power supplies doesn't vary with power. Plus the higher the wattage the better the components, less heat, ability to run fanless etc.

What you do need to check is the connectors as they vary by individual model.

A 3080ti is in the works according to the rumour mill.

You should also check whether the cpu will run the card to its potential. Should happen at 4k easily but as resolution decreases the cpu may bottleneck the gpu.

Again, that's a kind of bad design with very little airflow, if you want a totally 'future proof' design, I'd look at a lian li 011 XL, you could also look at the basic model or mini and vertical mount, they even do an Asus ROG version as you seem to like the branding.

But you will need to add your own fans, generally this is a good plan anyway as most fans that come with cases tend to be more basic ones anyway.

Other good manufacturers to look at would be corsair, phanteks, coolermaster (if it has mesh in the front), be quiet, inwin.

There are loads really, the thing to look for is that it has plenty of room for airflow, so, no glass penels pressed against fans and look for 7 slots to have the option of aftermarket vertical mounts (ideally open without bars between the slots unless you are fine to go at it with a dremel) if the case doesn't come with one.

As an example that Asus case has a vertical mount built in, but it would only work for watercooled cards as it would have the card sat right against the side panel, do it couldn't breathe properly.

Using the 011 xl as an example, it has more than enough depth, can be vertical mounted, a load of room behind the tray to make cable management very easy, it's all glass which looks cool, but has intakes / exhaust on top / bottom and the side so can get all the airflow it needs

The 1200w wouldn't be a bad choice as it will keep around 50% load, which is both efficient, cool and quiet gir the psu.

If you choose to watercool or mod in the future the cards have a bunch of extra performance to give and can pull 700w ish.

Regarding the card fitting, it's a wide boy abd may not close with the side on, the case also seems pretty restrictive surflow wise, could potentially fix the issue with a vertical mount kit, but, may be best to look for a new case, as you are looking at £1400 cards, I can assume you can afford a new case also :)

I appreciate the information on the Power Supply, as I want the 1200 watt anyhow. I however really dont wanna invest in another case as this one is only a year and half old and I love it lol. The size is mid range and I am unsure about the GPU specs as far as dimension are concerned.
I have read a lot of conflicting articles stating if I have a RTX 2080 I should be fine. As well as some stating it can fit in a mid range but it'll be snug. I'm just not very good with... well dimensions :P

I am wondering what my dimensions are for what card needs... if that makes sense.
I have same psu 1200w asus thor and i love it but keep in mind for this money you could get a better titanium psus. I traded my antec high current pro for it which was a bad trade but it looks better ;)

I definitely will be getting a new case. I regret buying such a small case but at the time it had all I wanted. Now, not at all.
I appreciate you giving me some helpful clarification 🙂. To be honest I like that better.

I just need to figure out how to actually rebuild what's in mine ( different power supply and gpu) by putting into a new case. Any helpful videos for complete beginners?

Alright so 1200 watts it is. Thank you for clarification.
I am a total noob with building a pc. Now that I have to completely gut mine to rebuild in a new case. I'm kinda overwhelmed with how to even build it back to what I have with a new power supply and GPU. Later I'll figure out if the cpu will run the card and or if I wanna switch CPUs from Intel i9 to ryzen 9 etc.

1. 1200 watt Power supply won't hurt you PC by any means. More wattage is actually better (if you have the money to buy it), because you will have lesser load percentages on your Power Supply, so it will run more silent and cool.

2. You can know it better than anyone if the Graphics card will fit in your case or not. RTX 3090 FE is 12.3 inches long. Get a measurement tape and measure the space over the Graphics Card slot. See details dimensions here. https://www.pcworld.com/article/3575998/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-founders-edition-review.html?page=2

3. If you already have an i9, your CPU is fine. i9 is still the top CPU for gaming. Ryzen won't give you any extra performance in gaming overall.
