Force a game to start in 4K DSR?
Hello, sorry if it's the wrong section.
I have a 2K monitor, but I usually play in 4K DSR.
Usually, games starts in 4K with no problems, but a specific game, Tales of Vesperia, for some reasons (bug), always starts in 2K, also if in the settings .ini clearly says 4K, then I have to change resolution ingame.
It's highly unlikely it'lle be fixed, so is there any way to force it to start in 4K?

I tried something I found online, to make steam via advanced launch options, make the game run at that resolution, like "-screen-width 3840-screen-height 2160", or with just W and H, but with no success.

Buy a 4k monitor

This is a 1440p (2k) monitor, not a 4k

A 4k monitor can do 4k / 2k / 1080p / ect
But a 2k can only do 2k / 1080p / HD ect not 4k

One day, I'll find a decent person on Steam forum, but not this day.

Ask dumb questions, get dumb answers. What did you expect? Buy a 4K monitor if you want to see 4K resolution.

Have you checked the global option in 3d settings ?
( i don't use nvidia card for a long time) to do that i remember i had to change some options into geforce--manage 3d settings or something.

Thanks, but there you can decide the general settings for DSR, not force a resolution for every single game.

mh what about in the list of games on geforce?if this game is in there you should able to tell the game to open with specifc options and that included dsr..at least is how amd super resolution works and i believe is the same for nvidia.
On amd i did like nvidia back then,i just set the global option to enbale super resolution (dsr) everywere,so i can choose from 1080p to 2556x1440 or 4k but the problem for me a part fps are the hud doesn't scale,or at least i don't know how to change that with amd
Set your desktop rez to 4k before you launch the game.

Do you mean GeForce Experience? It's a good idea, but unfortunately Nvidia dediced to not add it to the app.

@xSOSxHawkens I tried, but the desktop, icons and text, doesn't scale so well with DSR in 4K.

Thank you guys, I appreciated.

They wont scale well not matter what you do cuz you are running at twice native rez.

But that doesnt matter while you are gaming. St it to 4K then launch the game, then back to 1440p when you are done and want to use the desktop.

Library > Settings for that specific game > Launch Options

-w 3840 switch
dsr and vsr exists for a reason the reason is anti-aliasing when msaa ssaa/fsaa is not viable i got a 4k tv if i can ill run it double if i have the rare games of running into a older game with terrible jagged edges

offcourse i would be better off down scaling it then throwing reshade filters on top of it cheaper on performance down that path

note that dsr works on 16:9, 21:9, 32,9 however vsr works only on 16:9 and 21:9 however vsr has higher resolutions then dsr

or enable gpu scaling in amd/nvidia control panel, and set game settings to the higher res

launch options are game specific, not all games have forced res switches

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
