Honestly, SSD's are getting cheaper and cheaper a good fast M.2 SSD 1TB is around $100-$150.
I made the same mistake 5 years ago and now bought a new 1TB SSD in SATA because 250 GB doesn't cut it anymore.
Even if you manage to free up 85 GB, you'll have no head room and it will be a nightmare at each update.
so over 25-50g free space is ideal
you should really have a 2-4+tb hdd for larger games
That's an old solution. You'll be able to get one game on that SSD, top (and running a game on an SSD is a minimum requirement now, see Cyberpunk for example). And if suddenly there is a 10 or 15 Gb update you might be in a pickle (because windows 10 is massive). It's better to just get a 1 TB SSD (doesn't have to be NVMe) and get over with it. SSD can also have iffy life expectancies so... if OP 250 Gb SSD is old, he/she might want to change it anyway.
