You would be fine too with a 5600x with your rtx 3080, 5900x is a nice beast but you won't take advantage at 100% for gaming only (besides in future who knows).
If you don't have issues with money get it, besides consider to get a good cpu cooler and fast rams (3200mhz or 3600mhz with the lowest cl) for take advantage of it.

Unless your a big overclocker (as in for fun as well as performance) and live for warzone, it's one of the best chips currently, if you don't overclock and leave stuff stock, it's only really beaten by the 5950x.

If you do enjoy tweaking the cpu and memory and love the bios screen a 10900k can beat it and is cheaper, however, for most people the 5900x is more than enough and the differences only really show in a very limited way at very high fps.

Though the 12th gen is due soon, so could be worth waiting to see how that ends up, but I'm not expecting any breakthroughs in gaming and it will be expensive for both cpu, ram (ddr5) and mobos.

I have h115i platinum from corsair. I need to figure out how to mount it as AMD bracket is not so straightforward as intel, so I have heard

I think that 12th generation will be expensive. I can bag MSI x570 MAG tomahawk and r9 5900x for £ 630. Next gen will prob cost £ 800 for mobo and CPU plus RAM replacement.

Ryzen 9 isn't worth it if you're only gaming. It's expensive, and by time you actually need 12 cores for gaming, it's going to be slow in comparison to future 12 core processors. Ryzen 9 processors also need a better VRM than Ryzen ~7 processors, so it'll cost more from the motherboard as well, and by going that high, it'd be pointless to be using slower than 3600 CL16 RAM.

Just get a 5600X or 5800X instead, save your money. Ryzen 9 is worth it when you actually have profit to make off of the use of your PC. If it's purely entertainment, don't waste your money.

There is £ 110 diff between 5800x and 5900x. I just need CPU to last me at least 5 years. My thinking was that if I get flagship it will last longer and price diffefence is not that big if I think about it in 5 years term.

8 cores will last 5 years easily, people seem to think it's not going to be any good next year because of console, yet that's something that people have been saying for years, and they're always wrong.

5900X isn't the flagship, the 5950X is.

5800X isn't hotter, it draws less power. The whole Zen3 stack runs pretty hot, but Ryzen 9 runs hotter and needs a good liquid cooling solution.

Oh man. I have no idea then. How hotter ia 5900x and one user conformed that corsaie 115i platinum will be sufficient.

A good air cooler too is enough as a Scythe Fuma 2 (I have that cpu with it).

If the price difference is only £110, then 5900x is a better buy if you want future proofing to some degree. Games are already using full 6c/12t, it won't take long before it will step up to the 8 cores.

Guys, why intel i9 10900 scored more in Red Dead Redemption 2 than Ryzen CPUs?
karmazyn1 3. okt. 2021 kl. 14:12
I got extra life from my i7 6700k by overcklocking it. Is Ryzen 9 5900x easy to overcklock? Can you squeeze more out of it when need arises?

Why are you surprised?
Intel and Ryzen has equal performance. In some games intel wins, and in some games Ryzen.
An overclocked i9 10900k usually surpasses the Ryzen in many cases.
