Did my power board fry my PC?
I was just rearranging some stuff in my room, including my computer. Once I was done, I plugged the power cable for my PC back into my power board. There was some static noises while I was trying to plug it in, and I kinda felt the static throughout my body, but I managed to plug it.

I turned on my PC and everything was fine. Was using it for a bit, but then my foot touched the cable and it made the static sound again and my screen went black but the computer itself was still on. It suddenly started getting really loud, (like the fan, I think) and I honestly thought it was going to explode. I pressed the power button and it turned off for a sec, then it turned on and it all seemed normal, but I shut it down through the menu and flipped the switch at the back then unplugged it.

I still haven't plugged it back in and I'm worried if anything got damaged during that, especially since it's a relatively new build (everything is new except I used the GPU and PSU from my old computer as the PSU is only 2 years old and I couldn't afford to get it all new, but I'm planning on replacing it next year or the year after.)

So, yeah I just wanted to know if there's a possibility that anything was damaged or if there was just a bit of remaining electricity or something and it's fine for me to plug it back in now that I've left it unplugged for a while?

Thanks!

agree it's probably the PSU, to confirm you could try the paper clip test

if yours is DOA it will not power up at all, and you just need to get a new PSU and you should be good to go. The Corsair CX (or CXM) gray-label is my go-to replacement on the cheap...

I thought naturally failing caps don't bulge but excessive voltage caps do which is the impression i got from the OP. Correct me if I'm wrong which i very well could be.

^ lol, not all bad caps are buldged, only a small amount of them leave visual signs, bulged/leaky/exploded, most die silently with no clue

@op, where was the flash from?
from inside the psu switch, not horrible same a plugging it in, inrush current going through the switch causing the spark

if it was from inside the psu, it may be its fuse blowing

Sorry for the late as response - had a hectic few days!

I couldn't really tell, the whole thing kinda flashed to be honest. It actually looked a little bit like it came from the CPU cooler or the GPU, weirdly enough, but I feel like I'm just not remembering it right. There was a very, very faint pop sound.

This actually happened to my last PC, the power supply was very old and one day it literally just exploded, even though the computer was off. There was a loud bang, smoke and everything. That PSU was like 5+ years old though. This one was barely 3.

I'm going into the shop in a couple days to get it replaced, I'm just really hoping nothing else was damaged. But if it was, I believe it'd be under warranty.

one good reason to invest in a quality psu
stick to the known good brands, seasonic/evga/bequiet/corsair(non v series)
80+ gold or bronze, 650+w is enough for most builds

poor quality psu thats weak or dying can spike the rails way out of spec, enough to damage other components (gpu/mobo/drives/usb devices) before tripping its protections and turning off

hopefully it was just the psu

My one that just broke was Corsair VS550
