Using iGPU and DGPU simultaneously for different tasks.
Is it possible to do so? for example using the IGPU to accelerate YouTube on chrome while using the DGPU to power games. In Windows 10 graphics settings both power savings and high performance options for an app to use both says GTX 1080ti and the iGPU is nowhere to be seen. Thanks in advance.

not really

but you can use the intel hd to encode video for streaming while gaming on the dedicated gpu

but its not possible if using an amd apu and amd dedicated gpu

but any tasks like that would still be much faster on the 1080ti than any apu/igpu and not have an impact on gaming performance

Good to know that it's at the very least possible

I believe it can be done but there is no way afaik to tell windows what to display to what monitor, the discrete gpu will be set as main i assume and windows will default to that.

If you plug in a monitor into the motherboard it will use igpu. I did that and it worked fine, until i broke the hdmi port… rip

a 1080ti is so much faster at everything than the best intel uhd or ryzen igpu

No one is denying that. But i do kinda agree that if you got an igpu, then why not use it for something? Watching a youtube video actually uses ~10% of my rtx3090... So if you want to play games and watch videos at the same time, it might actually help to move that load from gpu to igpu...

its probably using 10% of its idle clock
check with gpuz to see what its clocked at and load

Nah. Idle clock is 1695 Mhz. Gpu usage is 2% with a youtube video paused, 4% playing windowed, ~12% playing full screen, although it does fluctuate a bit. But thats normal and doesnt matter.

Only way to do this is to connect a display to the IGPU on a Desktop PC and this Display is then always driven solely by the IGPU and apps you drag over to that display should then use the IGPU instead.

But there is no reason to. Even back in the days of gtx 4xx/5xx series gpus, running a Web browser with videos running along with a directx/opengl game is not really an issue. However it might be helpful to open things like Task Manager and Web Browser before launching any game.

Today's gpus are also much better at this. Even a gtx 1050 Ti has no problems doing this even with 3 displays connected

Update: found a way to do so, Enable igpu in bios but do not choose it as a primary gpu then install appropriate drivers and finally in Windows settings, go to graphics, scroll to bottom, pick browse app, find exe then choose what gpu u want to use for that specific app.
Power saving uses iGpu and high performance uses Dgpu. U confirm that it’s working by opening up task manager and look at Gpu 0 and gpu 1 respectively. If it doesn’t work then a system reboot maybe nessesary.
