Second monitor will only have 60hz option but its 144hz
I have my Asus G14 (2021) connected to my Asus VG248QE via HDMI and in my display options it only allows for 60hz option being the highest. Any help would be appreciated in finding out how to get the 144hz option.

To get 144hz use a displayport cable, HDMI is only 60hz

Would a hdmi to displayport work or usb-c to displayport be better?

(thanks for the reply)

no
hdmi is 60-120hz max not 144

the laptop should have dp on it
https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-zephyrus/rog-zephyrus-g14-series/spec

edit: nm, its type c with video capabilities, not dp
usb c video is the same bandwdith as single link dvi-d or hdmi 1.4, will not support 120+hz@1080p

use the amd/nvidia gpu control panels to select the res and refresh rate, not windows desktop setting

Regardless of laptop, monitor will only run 144 with either dvi-d or DP. If you connect usb-c to hdmi 60hz is all it will give, you will need a cable or adapter to connect to either dvi-d or DP inputs.

*dl-dvi-d not sl-dvi-d

So a HDMI to DVI cable could be what i need?

I cant use the nvida control panel as it does not provide the refresh rate panel when connected to my second monitor. Only when using the laptop by itself.

(thanks for the support)

The rule of thumb is when you use converters or adapters it will be limited to the lowest capabilities of the two. This might not always be true but it generally is.

Does your laptop have DP? The link and post above seem to claim/indicate it should. If so, use a DP cable and not an adapter or converter.

Yeah there is no display port on my g14. Just an HDMI port. What if i used a usb-c to displayport?

c is the same as hdmi/sl-dvi-d
not good enough for high refresh rates

Using an adapter doesn't get you around the (bandwidth) limitations of the input you're adapting. It just lets you use the inputs. So if you're using an older HDMI input with limited bandwidth, adapting that to display port doesn't magically increase the bandwidth and get you more performance. It's just useful if you have one thing that's HDMI and another thing that's DisplayPort.

Update! So i went ahead and bought a usb-c to display port and that did the trick. Now i get 144hz on my second monitor! Just an FYI for all those that helped and might come across this post. (thanks again folks)
