Ssd sata/m.2 nvme , m.2 sata ?

My motherboard is gigabyte h310m S2 (2018) version which dosent have any m.2 slots so I am using hdd (Seagate barracuda 1tb 7200rpm) since 2018 and now I'm looking forward to buy a ssd ... Ik m.2 nvme is a looot more faster than a normal sata ssd but my motherboard dosen't have a slot for it ... My pc mechanic said that I can still use any m.2 on this motherboard with an adapter ...

My question is , is it good to use a m.2 nvme in such a way? Or I should go for a normal sata ssd ?

It's fine, Instead of data traveling via an m.2 PCIE lanes it'll travel via a PCIe slot.

I have one of these for a motherboard that lacks an m.2 slot....worked fine for a few years now. Even using Crystal disk mark the speeds I get via a dedicated m.2 slot versus this pcie adapter is the same

EDIT: Oh and a M.2 Standard SSD or a NVMe SSD makes no difference really besides speed. I'd go NVMe as the price over a slower m.2 SSD vs m.2 NVMe SSD is not much difference

While an adapter will work fine, unless an M2 form factor drive plus the adapter is cheaper than a SATA drive (or unless you're going to change motherboard very soon), I'd just go with a SATA drive. You really won't notice the difference in most uses (the only thing SATA really bottlenecks is maximum read and write speeds which doesn't impact most uses), and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you won't ever see such situations if you've been using an HDD until now.

PCI Express 3.0 NVMe drives have come down to the point you can go with them by default now, but that's presuming you can natively take it. PCI Express 4.0 drives are similarly faster, but you lose nothing going with 3.0 unless you have a workflow that does benefit from the higher read and write speed. And, much of the time, for general file moving, cache will help speed it up anyway. it's when you have serious uses that the long-term sustained stats matter.

Sata ssd is more than enough.

Most games dont even use the full speed of regular sata ssd speed anyway. And nvme is overkill unless you do 4k video editing or whatever.

Even the slowest ssd in the world is better than any hdd because there is no seeking time, but you dont actually need a fast ssd for gaming.

just make sure the drive you buy has both m and b keys *(most nvme are m key only)

edit: the board doesnt even have an m.2 slot
get a better board
avoid the hx10 boards at all costs because they are missing basic features
not to mention the 2 dimm slots max and most have very weak vrm config for <75w cpus max

Yeah I'm looking it for playing games and to make my os task fast... my pc booting up time with my hdd is not that slow as the yt videos shows,it's usually <20 sec to reach desktop ..the problem starts after I reached desktop ....it then takes 5-10 minutes to complete all startup tasks ,I disabled all unnecessary startup taks like steam, discord, Spotify,and few apps I use which open on startup but still it takes that time to come back to normal , everything I start my pc the disc usage is always 100% for 5-10 minutes after that it goes normal 1-5% or 0%( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) sometimes...

I'm also using 8gb ddr4 2400 mhz ram and going to upgrade it with the ssd as well ... Maybe see some more improvements after ram upgrade ..

I'm upgrading these stuffs (my ram and buying a ssd )with a hope to play cod warzone, pubg, battlefield 1&5 with butter smooth experience.. my GPU is gtx 10606gb and processor i3 8100 3.6ghz

EDIT: I also do video editing stuffs but not 4k ,it's for steam profile (630*824) and I don't think it needs disc speed cuz I saw it only consumes my 7.5gb ram out of 8gb .. also as I've mentioned those games I want to play ,so will a sata ssd works fine for them ? If a sata ssd does my job fine then I'll definitely but it cuz it's also cheaper than a m.2 nvme one

Games will work on any drive, HDD, SSD or NVMe SSD makes no difference

SSD's will help load speeds compared to a HDD. If a game loads stuff frequently an SSD will make it a little faster. If a game isn't loading frequently playing on an SSD won't make a difference so keep those games on a HDD as a HDD is cheaper

sata ssd will do just fine, and will be a lot cheaper.
I have a bunch of PCs using m2 pcie nvme 2400MBps and a few using just sata ssd, there is a difference in speed, but something else will bottleneck it - like network.

something like a cheap $70 Crucial BX500 1TB ssd will be fine with 540MBps

Yep , for gaming and in real life , sata ssd s are fine . Just buy TLC or MLC one .Avoid QLC ones . And check the performance . Good are WD Blue

it s not normal such loading times . i ve god a hdd and it takes 20s to load Windows 10

my WD Blue 2TB has 135MB/s sequential read speed and i m pleased . i spend too much on software and no money left to get a ssd . i want a large one , if i go for a ssd

Some games like openworld types can have more stable or better performance with a few. Also they can load faster.
Also, we can see the cache advantages and the lower latency.

The OP said, he is searching for SSD, isnt he? I said sata SSD is ok! why? Because the OP have a motherboard which dont have M.2 SSD and there isnt that need to spend tons of additional money for "faster SSD" with adapter, I mean, this is not bad but there isnt that benefit.
