How hard is it to replace the glass on a monitor
I just had an accident at home. My screen was hit and the panel is now broken. I guess I can try opening this one to test. Nothing to lose now. I have an evil plan in mind. With a retailer I hate. I don't think my Visa automatic extra warranty will cover this.

Just the cover or the panel itself as well? Monitor, TV or laptop?

Hardest thing when replacing screens is not ruining the ribbon cables.

The Liquid Crystals are laminated to a film thats glued to the glass. If the glass is broken so is whats underneath.
Separate monitor. An actual broken glass near the bottom. Looks like a little spider web. A little to the right of center. Abut 1/8 of the monitor does not work at all. All the area about 2 inches on each side of the fracture and all the way to the top of the screen. The panel is worthless now.

the lcd panel is the display
unless you are in the country that makes the displays its not possible to do it cheap
(china/korea/japan)

even being able swap panels on similar (not exact same brand/model) displays is extremely unlikely

if its fairly new, try to claim it was damaged in shipping
say you recently opened the box and it was unpacked that way

It is not that new. Maybe 1 year old. I will have to look up the purchase date. But ... there is an evil trick that can be used ...

if you want to swap parts, swap parts with the same brand/model, swap the back panel with the serial sticker

AHA! Yes. I never thought of that. That will be way easier. You have to take that part off anyway to get to the panel. I will have to try with this one. I will also call Visa and see if there is a loophole I can use. Like no one checks to see what the actual damage is. It is not worth paying people to do that.

Nope. Deductible is too high.

that works if the ac or other household appliance breaks, but on a display its not nearly worth it
unless you can claim the entire pc
Correct. I will try the automatic extra Visa warranty. Then I will probably chicken out on the evil plan. I have not been a steady enough customer to do it. I would have to buy things for a couple of months first to stay under the radar. Meh. I will probably just buy an upgrade. I am not hurting for money. I am just cheap and hate to spend it.
Not gone happen, you need new monitor.

How old was the monitor?
If its a glass monitor, you should just throw it out and buy an LED or LCD. Glass monitors give you cancer
