Intel i7 10700K or AMD Ryzen 9 3900X — which CPU is best for gaming?
PC gamer claims that the intel CPU is better for gaming than the AMD alternative. What say you?

That’s what they said. I’m looking for a gaming CPU. The only work related stuff I do on my PC is letter writing :-)

I want the best gaming CPU available. My current i5 is really creaking now.

if your an overclocker you cant get the i5 10600k to levels of the i7 10700k and the 10900k
otherwise for intel 10700k and 10900k with the overclocking abilities are king at gaming.
but either top cpu from AMD or intel paired with a new 3000 series card is going to be a monster @1440 or 4k

Just what I expected lol, well even an Intel 6th gen i7 is not as good for stuff nowadays, especially when I just try to put a few captions in videos lol.

You just need the latest generation of Intel i5 if you just play games, any further CPU upgrade would not really affect gaming performance much, as it is left for the graphics card.

I did buy it back in 2014 so it’s done me well.

i9-10900k or i7-10700k would be the fastest. Even the mid-range intels beat the 3900x.

If you're looking at from the perspective of spending a given amount (~$400 USD last I checked in the case of both these two CPUs) and seeing which brand is better for you, I would recommend the Intel Core i7 10700K here. Normally I'd recommend to go with the extra cores the AMD offering grants, but once you get to 8+ cores, unless you know you need more, then if you're willing to pay the premium of going with Intel, it will give you the absolute best performance.

Keep in mind Zen 3 will have an announcement covering it early October I think.
I would say a Ryzen 9 3900x I get over 100fps on ultra on all the games i play except doom eternal i only get a measly 90 fps on ultra.

3800X
B550 or X570 board
2x 16gb ddr4 3200

There's little point opting for a Ryzen 7 3800X right now when it's typically around $50 more ($40 more at Micro Center) than a 3700X but it's not that much better (IMO). At between $20 to $30 more I'd say they'd be priced better relatively. The 3800X and the XT variants are sort of the niche options IMO. They're not as good in what they offer for their cost relative to the others in the lineup. If you really want to spend more for extra performance, you fall into the "wait for Zen 3" group, or just go with Intel now.

AMD is perfectly fine for gaming. Intel is simply better if you want the absolute best and are willing to pay a disproportionate premium for a smaller relative gain, and even then I'd only solidly recommend it at higher price points ($400+). Below that, there's more decision making to do to decide which is better.

Yea at that price get the 3700X
Runs very close to a 3800X but is lower TDP chip

Intel is better for now. But no one knows what will be when Zen 3 be releassd.

7 nm CPU is better then Intel, just do to physics along.
buy the AMD you will absolute not regret it. i have and it's a absolute monster

i5k or i7k have better core performance when oc'd than ryzen
thats where it counts in games if you are looking for the highest fps when not gpu limited

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-10700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-3900X/4070vs4044

when games need more than 8 cores with ht/smt they will need faster cores too
