Is GTX 10 series obsolete?
How much longer, realistically, do you think the 1070 and 1080 with their respective "ti" models will last and be a viable option for new builds as far as 1080p and 1440p goes? I'm still rocking my 1070 and am having serious thoughts about switching to Xbox Series X for my future gaming endeavors rather than spend a thousand dollars every couple years to make sure I'm having the best gaming experience possible. The Series X is going to be so powerful that for the casual gamer that isn't interested in competitive 240hz gfuel induced gaming, it isn't going to be a big enough benefit to game on PC anymore. It just seems like the best financial option for the common gamer and game collector. I'm tired or worrying about my computer hardware being powerful enough to have a good gaming experience and spending so much time and money on it. Sorry, kinda got off topic there lol

For the current prices of the new 3XXX series, I'd say the 10 series are obsolete. If you have a 10 series and it runs well, I'd keep it for now. I have a 1080Ti and run 1080p and 3440x1440p and it works really well. I can't say it would be worth $600 to upgrade for 1440p but thats me.

But it wouldn't be just to upgrade to 1440p. A 3080 would be able to do 4K at 120 fps with ease.

And have no trouble doing 60 fps across 3X 1440p screens.

You'd also be gaining RT and DLSS features and would easily be able to output at least 4X fps of whatever a 1080 Ti could

not obsolete just discontinued
the 1060 6g+ are decent for 1080p60 with newer games mid-max

For me its just 1440p. I don't care about 4k currently and no reason i'd ever run 3x 1440p screens. Ray tracing doesn't really add much for me. I'm more gameplay over graphics. For what I play, its not worth the upgrade and I'd say there's a lot of people in the same boat.

You buy pc because you can do so much more than just gaming.

If gaming is the only thing you wanna do, yea you should just get console instead. It's hard to beat the value of console

you dont need the rt cards to do raytracing, they do have the rt shortcuts to make them better at it, but at lower res/fps the gt cards can do it

Obsolescence varies from one user to another. Many people would find the GTX 1050 amazing, while others find it to be way too weak; it ultimately depends on what you want to use the graphics card for.

This is my opinion though:

GTX 1050 - Obsolete for modern releases, but good for e-sports
GTX 1050 Ti - Same as 1050, but fares better
GTX 1060 3GB - Obsolete due to cut down spec and low VRAM, but better than 1050/Ti for e-sports
GTX 1060 6GB - Rapidly approaching obsolescence in modern gaming, but still very capable
GTX 1070 - I wouldn't say it's obsolete just yet, but it won't take too long before the 1070 really starts to struggle; same performance bracket as the 1660 cards.
GTX 1070 Ti - Still very good for 1080p gaming, probably got at least another year or two before it starts to really show its age
GTX 1080 - Still a very good GPU, even if it trades blows with the 2060 and 2070 and will be defeated by the 3060.
GTX 1080 Ti - Still a very capable GPU, equal to the 2080, and will last a few more years at least before the user may consider upgrading.

For brand new builds, you're better off with the latest, unless you're still only playing at 1080p and aren't intending on upgrading your GPU.

My 960 4gb runs just fine but I will be upgrading to a 3070 and the 960 will be put back in my win7 machine which is currently rocking a 660.

For 6 months

That depends on how demanding any game you have or plan to buy is.

Many games will now be remastered because of RTX 30.

To name a few..
Crysis
Witcher 3

Doom Eternal will be patched further to add better support and optimization. Along with some other games such as Shadow of Tomb Raider. Basically more recent games just need patching. Older games will be remastered from ground up, like we saw with Mafia 1

Console definitely works out to be cheaper. PC generally have better graphics, particularly at the end of a console generation (like if you compare PC graphics to PS4 now). If you don't have any PC exclusive that you want to play and having the best graphics is not your priority, then console would work.

Probably also depends on what platform your friends are on so you can multiplay together
I honestly think that this is finally the generation of consoles that will, for the most part, close the gap in graphics between console and PC. Obviously PC will still be the place for early graphics tech, competitive gaming and customizability where every frame and ms of input delay counts, but for someone who just wants a great seamless gaming experience, Xbox Series X seems like the way to go this time, at least for me.

There's no gap closing here, when the Xbox One came out it was as powerful as the last generation's top card, just as the Series X is as powerful as a 2080/2080Ti.

The difference is the CPU and memory. You do realize the i7-4790k was out at that point right? which is still an incredible gaming CPU to this day that made xbox one's cpu look like a joke... Not to mention gaming PCs of that time already supported SSDs and basically unlimited memory. This time the AMD Zen 2 CPU is crazy fast with 16gb of GDDR6 memory which is a game changer. If you think there's still a gap then you're wrong boyo.

Ps4 released in 2013? If you were using a gpu from then, you would not be running games smoother than a ps4

Consoles use a shared ram for the OS and GPU. It doesn't have any dedicated vram. So it will always be using about 1/4 of that ram for the os dashboard.

While the new consoles do have Ryzen in them, their gpu is still crap.
