Max speed of PCIE 3.0 for M.2 SSD
Im going to get a sabrent Rocket and I was wondering what the fastest speed I could achieve on a PCIe 3.0 m.2 socket on my Z390 motherboard.

Yes I'm getting a Gen 4 M.2 but its for futureproofing, In the near future I'll most definitely have a system with gen 4 and the price difference between the gen 3 and gen 4 sabrent is £12.

Max speed will be 4GB/s. On average you will see the fastest PCI-e 3.0 NVMe SSDs run a bit above 3.5GB/s due to overhead.

Rocket 4 ssds are fast, but still not fast enough yet to max out a PCIE 4.0 Gen4 M2 slot yet.

Samsung 980 PRO and a couple others similar to it will release soon, with 7GB/s
