Can my PC handle of 3070?
So I'm thinking about getting a 3070, as I've currently got a Radeon RX 580. Anyway, here are my specs other than the graphics card.

Intel i5-8400 2.80 GHz
16 GB DDR4 RAM
B360M Bazooka Motherboard

I'm thinking if there are any problems it'll be my CPU. If I can't put a 3070 in there than I'll just wait another year until I build a new PC.

Also, how hard is it to change a graphics card out? The only upgrade I've ever made was my RAM.

That depends. Do you want a huge upgrade from your RX580? Or do you want to avoid upsetting people who have an obsession with optimal configurations?

If the former, upgrade away. If the latter, enjoy being miserable for no reason.

And the way I look at it is you can throw a 3070 in there and be happy. And if you were to decide to build a more powerful system in a year or two you can drop the 3070 in there and still be happy.

Playing GPU bingo to maintain imagined optimums just doesn't make sense. And the point of upgrades is to improve system performance. Not satisfy hardware enthusiasts egos over what's right and proper and decent.
Honestly, I think I'll keep using my RX 580 for another year or two. I'm planning on building a beast of a PC at some point in the next couple of years. I think I was just getting caught up in the hype. I've literally heard people say that you are stupid if you don't upgrade to at least a 3070 and I wanted to fit in.
You know what Op,that 580 is and still heck of a card.Rock it on out w that setup you have, then wait until the dust settles in a year or so,and by then you will be sure you want to upgrade. Also ray tracing will be much better by then I'm sure

Ray tracing isn't even hardly a thing yet, trust me.Not matured by any means. You are missing out on a hand full of games so far.

Spend that money on building up your game library. Another big steam sale will come very soon.

No point upgrading the GPU if your monitor can't display the higher fps anyway. Just upgrade the GPU and monitor at the same time, that's what I will be doing as well when I have money.

Yes I would stick with current speca for now. Then maybe do a whole new build when you've saved up alot more. For 1080p/60 your current specs should be fine. Just that you may need to turn down some of fluffy visuals in some games depending on how demanding they are.

When ready to do a whole new modern build with also whatever is the latest gpu you can afford to, then also look to bump up to a better Monitor. Such as something in a 27 inch minimum at 1440p/165hz or better with DisplayPort

As the graphics cards nowadays are usually powered directly from the PSU rather than relying on the motherboard's power, the only thing you would really need to worry about is the wattage of your PSU, NVIDIA official site says they gonna take at least about 650w to 750w, other than that, the graphics card is just another PCIe device, I dont think it would cause much problem with your old system.

But if you are hoping to actually make better use of the graphics card upgrade, you might want to upgrade other system hardware and the monitor as well, while your old system already works quite well on 1080p60, just putting a higher level graphics card in the old system would not really make things any better.

Except that am 8400 is pretty poor cpu to use with such higher end gpus. As many games, this cpu would hold you back quite a bit.

I with ya,but remember he has 60hz monitor tho

So no doubt Op if you get 30xx and even 20xx Gpu you will wind up having a bottleneck. But If you are ok with your Gpu pumping out more Fps that your Cpu can produce,I would say go for it.Probably be happy at 60fps locked

I agree with what ppl here said. Theres no point upgrading to 3070 if you're just using 1080p 60fps monitor.

You don't know how to change the graphics card but you want to build a PC?

Sounds like you need Youtube!

Of course I'm gonna follow a guide when I do my first build. I'm not stupid, I'm just not super familar with the inside of a computer.

Good on ya, Zoomii!

Good thing the 3070 isn't going to be as costly as I thought. The LG monitor I'm contemplating is going to tack on yet another 350 USD. It's like you're not just getting a gpu, you're ending up getting packages of hardware.
