I used to like those chips 🍟 myself, they need a X58 series mobo right?

Unless you have the rest of the kit needed laying around, probably not, even if you do, it will be slow as hell.

Yea i think so...they aint cheap
No, triple channel memory motherboards cost a bit to make and can be hard to find a working one these days sadly 😔.

Most of them required 6 layer PCB instead of the cheaper 4 layer PCB.

They can hit 4ghz+ and still hold their own nice today on modern games. But like everyone said, finding a good motherboard for a reasonable price is a crapshoot. If you can get a solid board reasonable then you have a potential good setup. But OC'ing would be a must I would say.
I wouldsay no ,if u have an x58 mobo u can get a six core xeon for 30 , its a no brainier, no i7 920

hitting certain GHz doesnt equal eprformance. The FX-8350 can hit 8.1 GHz on all 8 cores and still is normally just on par with a Pentium G4560...

i7-920 is weak, outdated and nothing comparable to the 2nd Generation. The first generation was a failure as well as the tripple channel Nethalem.
Even the 2nd Genertaion i7 which was way stronger has it troubles to hold it ground in any modern game.

I'd try and find an i7 2600K, i7 2700K or i7 3770K instead.

Get a xeon x5675 for $50 on ebay instead, overclocked to 4.5-4.6ghz its roughly comparable to a stock clocked i7 5820k. My x5675 @ 4.6ghz scores 140 single thread and 1055 multi thread in cinebench r15.
Brimac Mar 18, 2018 @ 9:42am
Most x58 mobo that use a xeon have to be modded to use them, newest bios and soddering.
They are still a good workhorse, and can still game.
You are stuck to sata2, no usb3, no m2 slot, and pci ex 2.0.
If you have the mobo and ram for it, and cant afford nothing new than sure use it.
Most all i7 920 can overclock to 3.0 - 3.6ghz for extra speed.:steamhappy:
