How much vram is enough?

I plan on getting a new graphics card for my computer, preferably of the 3000 series. I play at 1080p with my 970, but im upgrading to a 1440p monitor. I understand vram usage is affected by resolution, and I want to future proof my graphics card as I skip every few generations. I can't find a straight forward answer anywhere, but I did read somewhere that 8gb vram is standard right now for 1440p AAA gaming. I want to use this graphics card for atleast the next 6-8 years. What is a good amount of vram to futureproof my graphics card? Thanks!

I am also interested in VR at resolutions of 4k+

Get the best GPU you can afford.

4GB is more than enough for most games at 1080p, 6GB is a little bit better for maxing out settings in some games at 1080p, 8GB has been the high end but is more recently a sweet spot.

The 3080 will have 10GB, and there may be a Ti later on.

i have around 6GB Vram and it's perfectly enough for what I do, nonetheless, 8GB is enough and it should last you well

At the very least, the 3090 will easily last as long as you want it to, since it should be great for high FPS at 4K.

i don't game at 4K, though since 8K and a lot of newer stuff might be in play if you can afford this

then go for it, otherwise just use the best out of your tech as much as you can

I’d say 6gb of vram but don’t know what the future holds. Got a 1060 3gb in a backup pc and a couple of games really don’t run well with it (resident evil 7 and Arkham knight) so if your buying now you want at least 6-8
