Reliable way to test my HDD “health”
My HDD is noisy. I know HDDs are never as quiet as SSDs, but I’m not sure if it’s meant to sound the way it does.

Which method do you guys recommend for testing for HDD problems? Is there a built-in program which can do it for Windows 10?

Use the diagnostics tool made by the manufacturer of the drive.
launch "cmd" as admin, type and paste "wmic diskdrive get model, status" without quotes

Got the following response (without the dashes):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Model Status
ST3320620AS OK
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess that means it's good?
Shouldn't I expect more info though? I mean, like, that's it?

https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/#downloads

or

https://crystalmark.info/en/download/ (download CrystalDiskInfo)

both tools work no matter who made the Drive. CrystalDisk should be enough since it instantly shows warnings. Then you can go ahead and maybe run a test with SeaTools.

Found that HDD has a fail using SeaTools.

By the way, can the faulty harddrive damage other components? Should I keep this pc off til I get a replacement? Everything on my HDD is backed up; I’m just worried the faulty HDD might damage other components...

short answer: yes.

however, if you want detailed information, you can check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your storage using speedfan, speccy, crystaldiskinfo, or your storage manufacture's utility program.

Used the “fix all” feature in SeaTools, and now my HDD doesn’t seem to be failing tests I run on it anymore.

I’m assuming this means the problems are fixed.

Any other steps I should take just to be safe?
