RTX 3000 new PSU connector...
I was about to buy the Corsair RMx 850W 80+ Gold fully modular PSU[www.corsair.com] in a few days before it runs out of stock because it has 10 years of warranty anyway. However, I just read that the RTX 3000 series cards will have new PSU connectors and that adapters will be included with them, so my question is, will the PSU above be compatible with that adapter and the cards or will I need to wait for new PSUs or what? As far as I know, the only potential problem is that it would have to be 850W and the one I would buy is 850W.

As far is i read Online. The 12 pin is only requierd for the Founders Edition. I believe the board partnters are still using traditional connectors. But the GPU will most likely ship with a 12 pin adapter for older PSU's. But so far its only been confirmed for the RTX 3090.

Probably better to wait for aftermarket cards, I doubt most other companies want to start messing with their 12 pins and extravagant cooler designs, should be your normal 3-fan versions out soon.

I really wouldn't be concerned as nothing mentioned implied that it would be a requirement for all cards. Any card that requires the 12 pin connector should have an adapter to convert traditional connectors. Nvidia did say you wouldn't need a new PSU. Aftermarket cards may not even use the 12 pin connector and those to will either ship with an adapter or make one available.

All of the current PSUs have the same 6/8-pin connectors. So the adapters would work with all current market PSUs. The only compatibility issue is the arrangement of the pins on the new plug. It's still going to draw power like now, it's just that it will be done with one connector rather than multiple connectors.

Only the Founder's Edition models from NVIDIA are going to have 12-pin connectors as far as we know, since some of the AIBs have hinted that they would continue using the 8 and 6 pin standards. Just means that at least the 3090 is probably going to require 3 8-pin.
