Those with 1080ti. High temps running a game at 1080p
Been running just cause 2 at 60 fps maxed out. Other games with way newer graphical options barley break 60c. Most games stay below 50 or 60. Though playing just cause 2 I get 75c which is weird because it's only at 1080p 60 fps. Now I know 75c isn't crazy but since I'm not playing 4k and other games were lower I thought this was weird.
I'm pretty sure this is a 1080ti fe I say pretty sure because im sure it's a 1080ti just not sure who made it. It's black with one fan and a lit up GeForce gtx on the side. Haven't had time to take it out of the case and look at it.
Either way does any one know if the 1080ti just runs hot? My idle temps are super low around 29c. Or is iust cause 2 that demanding of a 2010 game? Also used to run this on my 1060 6gb on a Windows 7 machine and I don't think it ever went to 75c.
EDIT: odd problem it was actually because some games would sync to the 60hz setting that the monitor is set to but oddly enough other games were syncing to 144hz. If anyone has any info on why some games set to the monitors set refresh rate 60 and other games vysnc bypass that compltley and sync to 144hz with no tearing at all. So this is odd and that is what was giving it the high temps. For now the only solution I have found is for those games turn off vysnc in game and force vysnc on in the control panel that has worked so far.

1080p won't make it work any less than at 4k, it will just push more frames, blower cards are kind of famous for bad thermals unless you turn the fan right up, at which point, they are actually remarkably good, they just sound like a jet engine, sadly.
When the temps get to 80 ish you need to worry as that's when the card will drop the boost clock to protect itself.
I feel like no one is seeing that I play in 60 fps vsync most games. So in 1080p atm I am not pushing more frames.

then there's my cpu which runs on idle with 120 degrees as Speccy shows me.
That's gotta be Fahrenheit.

not a bad temp for the 1080ti but thats very odd on just cause 2 i can almost max out the game on a 750ti on my spare pc.. just cause 3 would be a different story but jc2 on a 1080ti at 1080p?? something odd there unless you have it modded
Thank you that's what I have been saying. This guy gets it. I have been trying to adjust some settings in that game and I think it was a ssao setting. I turned it off and the game maxed at 55 58c. That's 20c difference. So that's odd. Idk I think my windows 7 10606g ran it better. All other game temps are fine so far as I continue to test it.

its possible the game doesnt do well with 1080ti i have just cause 2 but i havent played it on my 1070 but ive seen posts of people with high end hardware complain of low fps on older titles and this is def. an older title my guess is it doesnt do well with 1080ti + newer drivers

you would have been using a bit older drivers on windows 7 with the 1060 maybe the game was better supported with hat setup.. this game is old

Just curious, what is the point of you buying an $800 1080 Ti to only play at 1080p and 60hz?

1. Check GPU usage, i.e. with... GPU-Z (google it)
2. temps don't mean crap, if you don't correlate them to the model and current fan rpm. Yours may just be chilling around, and doesn't feel the need to ramp up fans - this is a GOOD thing.
<80°C is nothing for modern nvidia cards, so they usually shouldn't increase fan speed, and therefore keep it quiet AND cool at the same time.
3. yeah, sounds like some FE edition
4. 1060s, especially if custom model, and their firmware, it's really rather hard to get any heat out of them.

just my 2 cents.

P.S.: do some stress test, then check temps with GPU-Z, AIDA64, whatever, and don't forget to mention fan rpm. Otherwise i can't see any issue with yours.

its a 144hz monitor that I have it hooked up to just a majority of games do not need anything above 60. I am not gonna play alan wake or just cause 2 or even 3 for that matter at 120 fps for no good reason. I complteley agree a 1060 6gb is more than enough for 1080p. Though you would be surprised at the games that still push a 1080ti at only 1080p. now that i have my new rig and new 144hz monitor whenver I am ready I have the ability to upgrade to 1440p or 4k. so yes this is also why i got a 1080ti and black friday 200 bux off the card helped alot or i would have just got a 1070ti or something.

Ofc the msi gaming has a better cooling solution compared to your founders edition. The blower never rly was the top pick cooling version.

O yeah I figured the after market 1060 6gb msi coolers were amazing but still the 1080ti fe with its power usually doesnt get to hot unless I bump the resolution up. God I loved that msi design for the 10606gb.

Well you could buy an "Accelero" Cooler from Arctic and replace the blower.
Well I figured out the problem. I have no clue why but even when I have the hz set to 60 if you use vysnc in games it syncs to 144hz. So this whole time I was running the game at a steady 144fps which is why I was getting those temperatures. I have no idea why some games use the 60hz settings and why some games bypass it.
