Are Xbox 360 controllers not made by Microsoft good?
My ps4 controller is starting to have issues. So I'm thinking about maybe buying another controller. The cheapest controller I could find (that didn't look like ♥♥♥♥) was a wired Xbox 360 controller.
The thing is, that it's not made by Microsoft, it's made by "voyee" or some other company depending on which listing I buy it from.
So what I'm asking is if these controllers are actually good or are they really ♥♥♥♥ quality

depends

the chinese and mex clones have some minor isseus but work with most games
(my mex x360 wireless will not wake steam link, but ms branded works flawlessly)

the off brands (non clones) almost always have issues

if it shows up as a x360 controller in joy.cpl and steam -> controller -> general controller settings
then it should work in most games

All clones are Chinese, right?
Also what minor issues do they have?

Most aftermarket controllers have huge dead zones in the sticks. If you can find one that doesn't, then by all means but a used Xbox one controller with dongle may run you around $30 so I'd go that route. Or a wired original 360 controller will do the trick if you don't mind wired.

They're pretty much all garbage. Try to get your hands on a refurbished official xbox controller or just try saving up for a new one. You're better off spending slightly more for a good quality controller that lasts you a long time than constantly switching out bad controllers and ending up spending more in the end.

i have a mexican wireless x360 clone
similar to chinese clone, but instead of chinese writings its all in spanish/english
the ms hologram sticker is also blurry compared to the genuine controller
the plastics are close, but slightly more glossy looking than chinese and genuine
mex clone packaging looked exactly like the us boxed controller, even came with duracell batteries
buttons/sticks/triggers look feel and act exactly like the genuine controllers

iv shown it to a few friends and they couldnt tell it was a clone til they pop off the battery pack and read the labels

chinese clones have more wobble in the joys even when new (need to adjust deadzones to ignore it) and they feel cheap and are lighter than genuine

minor issues are like other said, deadzone, packaging, build quality

ive had a few of each, i like the mex clone a little more than the chinese clones
my only issue is that the mex clone cannot wake the steam link (using a genuine ms x360 receiver)
most chinese clones can wake the link, but feel more like junk than a genuine or mex clone

All xbox controllers are terrible. Putting the dpad below an analog stick is an affront against nature.

sony ds3 and ds4 are better controllers (layout, build, feel, dpad and have bt)
but their cloens and off brands are worse than most x360 clones and off brands

My thumb wants to rest on where the joystick is on the xbox, and since we use the left joystick much much much more than the dpad, it's better that way.

Don't project your perversities on everyone else. Stick is only for hack and slashes. Platformers, RPGs, Fighters all require dpad for max precision.
Unless you have a full arcade stick setup for fighters. Just a thumbstick is too clumsy for that.

My budget pick has been the Logitech F310 for the past couple of decades... arguably better quality than some of those clones that are available now

The one's made by Microsoft aren't that good, so perhaps they are.
Anyway, I´ve tried many controllers, and they were all bad, by my standards.
Every single one of them had some issue. Laughed my butt off, at all of them.

So probably different shades of bad. The one´s made by Microsoft´s may be not completely terrible. But still bad.

Are gamepads only compatible with those 4 game types? Imagine playing a racing game with d-pad.

Yeah, the arrow keys work best for that. Good old Wacky Wheels...

My experience, replace the joystick assembly[www.instructables.com] and it’s good as new. Until it breaks again, then get fed up and get an F310 lol

Buy an actual MS 360 controller.
Or MS XboxOne controller which can work via; ms xbo wireless dongle, Bluetooth, or wired via micro usb to usb male to male data sync cable.
