anything wrong with running laptop upsidedown or sideways?
currently have it hooked up to monitor and love gaming that way, but as some of you might know, gaming long periods of time on a laptop heat is an issue. I have an m.2 ssd not a hardrive so i think it might be fine..would proping the laptop sideways(less dust then upsidedown) so better airflow+heat escape would be better? also if anyone else does gaming laptop-to-external monitor, hows your setup going?

There should not be any problems with that, just make sure it doesn't fall over

As long as the airflow is not impaired in any way i don't see how it would matter.

Thanks for the opinions guys, Do you think that closing the lid while gaming is bad? Its a touchscreen, im sure the display will be fine but it wont trap heat will it? Also its an all aluminum metal laptop.

Shouldn't cause a problem since your airflow is coming from the sides and/or bottom of the laptop.

Sucks air from the bottom. Spits supa hot fire from the back

I have used old laptops as headerless servers over wifi for nonessential s e rvices for years. Configure then, close em, slide em sideways on a book shelf.

Keep airflow open and clean the vents twice yearly.

Hard drive orientation even for mechanical drives is a non issue at least as long as the drive is secure within the machine while upsidedown and is not allowed to vibrate.

My key concern with proping the laptop up during use is...

A/ Gravity, if the laptop falls over it will likely not bode well. The back end of the laptop is the heaviest, if you are proping up the laptop with the ports facing upwards, consider removing the battery to lighten the machine if you are running on mains to reduce the risk of damage from any... accidents (assuming you can without removing the entire base plate).

B/ The base underside of a laptop is structurally rigid, the lid (back of the display) rarely is and they can be quite mushy plastics. Any significant pressure to the back of the lid when held upright could cause damage to the screen.

I have an old i7 4700HQ, 16GB, 1TB, R9 265x laptop I used for gaming for the first half of it's life and it now serves as a video editing laptop sitting under my monitor, connected to said monitors second input and it gets used now and then for gaming when friends come over. Theres not much to say, it just works.

I have a gaming laptop like none you’ve ever seen bro. The only thing that i hate is 8gb of ram is soldered on.

This is what my laptop looks like http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-hp-omen-hps-first-stab-gaming-notebook-market

Except i have different better specs

This laptop would even be difficult to prop sideways, i was thinking of making a “trapezoid” base and plop this badboy sideways upright like its a wii and put it against the wall with intake facing me and exhaust away . Sorry if it doesnt make sense
