Best way to score one at MSRP is to stalk the nvidia or evga store as they sell direct without the price gouging in some stores, the 1050ti isn't really used for mining so shouldn't be to hard to pick up there.
If I can find a 750ti for a bargain price, that may be worth recommending.
The idea of getting direct makes sense, but nvidia does not sell anything below a 1060 direct, and EVGA wants 229 for their cheapest 1050ti, and from what I've found, the msrp should be closer to 150. The ordinary 1050 2G does go for 139 through EVGA and their cheapest 1030 is 104, so probably worth the extra 35 for that comparison, but the $90 difference between a 1050 and a 1050ti from the same manufacturer feels pretty extreme to me. Is the 1050ti that much better, or is it more a reflection of vram prices, or just supply demand affecting prices?
If it were for myself in that position, I'd probably bite the bullet on a 1050ti or save up for a 1060 direct from nvidia, but this is for my fiance's system, and she plays far less PC games compared to me, and runs stuff in vanila mode, but I want her to have a system that can give a good or at least decent (Comparable to a first gen PS4 or Xbone would be a good benchmark) experience when she does.

Buy a new a Ryzen 5 2400G since they made lower tier graphics card obsolete.
No they don't. Unless your current gpu is really old. Onboard graphics are not for gaming. Period.
