Is 8gb ram enough for a virtual machine?

for the vm host, not if you are going to emulate win10/7/8/vista

for the vm itself, yes it can be, but it also depends on what you need to run in the vm

We ll use the virtual machine (virtual box) for Windows (i think the 7) and Linux (Ubuntu to be specific)

Forgot to ask,is a 64gb USB enough for the virtual machine

do not use usb for things like that
it will make anything you are trying to vm too slow to even use

Probably enough unless you are using specialised software. I assume standard stuff like MS office. If it is not enough you can easily increase it.

I've run a vm on a PC with 8GB ram, so yes, it's possible. Ran ultra-lightwieght Linux in the vm though (Lubuntu). More ram is definitely better.

Just use a Linux "LiveCD" bootable ISO and create a bootable usb flash drive. Then you can play around in Linux without installing it.
