HD issue
Heyyy. I installed a 4TB HD. I have it plugged in via Sata from HD to power supply and then a cable from the HD to motherboard... the same way as my SSD is plugged in and working, It only shows on "Storage Spaces" in the settings. It doesn't appear in the Disk Manager or when viewing the Local Storage. I have yet to be able to allocate it. Hellpppp?
I think it has to do with the motherboard connection. There is like 4ish spaces where the cable can fit, I just picked one randomly. Does that matter? and/or make sense? haha:BL3Thumbsdown:

How old is the computer? Can it use 4 tb drives?

What operating system?

Did you plug in both the power and sata cable? Does the disk spin up when the pc is turned on? Does it show up in the bios?

I just built this PC with all new parts earlier this year. It's running Windows 10. It does show in the bios.
Very stupid question, my SSD is plugged in SATA6G_1 and I plugged the HD in SATA6G_4. Does that matter? Does it need to be plugged into 2?

Also, in bios... it is displayed under Storage Information, but is not under Boot Priority.

Any should work. The only time 1 or more Sata is disabled is if something that shares lanes is connected. For example Nvme drives.

The fact it's showing in Bios shows the port is active. I suspected it needed to be initialised but windows usually prompts you to say that and they normally show up in Disk manager so I haven't a clue.

No need for boot priority as it doesn't have an OS on it anyway

Plug into sata 0-3
Avoid sata 4-5

I posted on Reddit as well and someone else also said something about using SATA 5 or 6. What's the reasoning behind avoiding certain ones?

Well usually 0-3 would be running off the primary Intel or AMD Chipset while any extra ports "might" be running off a different chipset. OS might not see it properly because that extra sata chipset driver is not installed.

You usually will have less overall issues if you just use the sata ports that run off the primary chipset, unless you run above 4 sata drives. Usually on boards that have this I used to reserve ports labeled 4&5 (physically 5&6) to be used for optical drive, or to be used for sata hot-plugging.

If you only have a few drives, stick to ports 0-3 if using any sata drives for best results.

Again you don't list any hardware specs what so ever, so it's hard to say without knowing your exact motherboard. Also the motherboard manual should lay out details like this. Like for example, sata ports 0-3 being run off the Intel/AMD Chipset and ports 4-7 being a different chipset, such as ASMedia or other.

Ohhh. My motherboard is ASUS Prime X570-P

Well on those that have any NVME, certain sata ports will get auto force disabled whenever you a actively use an M2 NVME SSD, so that could also be a reason ports 4 or 5 might not work, even if the drive shows in the bios.

I just plugged it into SATA 2 and still only shows in BIOS. My SSD is in SATA 1. So confusing haha.

Go to Disk Management and it show as RAW. You need to initialize the Disk and then Format it via New Volume

If it helps any, my SSD is Samsung V-NAND 860 EVO 6GB. And the HDD that I'm trying to get going is a Seagate Barracuda 35

In Disk Management, it only shows Disc 0/SSD.

Try a different sata data and power connection cables for each.

Most included sata cables I just throw in the trash as half of em don't even work
