GTX 1660 Super i7 6700 Bottleneck?
Hello, I'm planning to upgrade my gpu but I'm confused. Here is my current setup:

GTX 960 2 gb
i7 6700 3.4 ghz
16 gb ram
450w psu

Playing games on 1080p. If I get GTX 1660 Super will any bottleneck happen? Yes, I checked the bottleneck calculator but I'm not trusting it. I have one day for the decide. So please help. Thank you!

No I wouldn't think so. For any major bottlenecking to happen you would need a severely older CPU and a very powerful GPU in comparison. I don't think that i7 of yours will take advantage of all the power the 1660 super offers but the performance hit will be minimal at best.

I would take a look at your power supply though. 450 Watts is not that much any more, you wont run into any problems I think because at full load your system will probably use something around 300-350 watts. I don't know what your cooling is like but I would look into getting a beefier psu, especially with the new GPU's coming out soon.

Thank you so much. My 960 works 65-75 C underpressure. Actually I was going to buy a new computer. However, due to a few setbacks, I have to manage with the computer I have, for 1-2
years. If I can play 2020-21 games without bottlenecking that is perfect for me. Thanks for answer again.

No problem. You'll be fine, especially at 1080p. You probably can't crank every setting up to its highest because of the Vram limit but its still a pretty powerful GPU so you shouldn't run into too much trouble. Good luck and have fun.

BTW, what kinda games are you planning on playing with that card? Just curious, it could effect performance if you would want to play Doom Eternal for instance, at its highest settings.

Like, Assassins Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, Mafia Definitive Edition, Hitman 3, Battlefield V, COD Black Ops Cold War, kinda every game :/

Yeah well, like I said, you won't be able to max out each and every setting with that card. All the older games it should run fine, no problem but I wouldn't expect it to handle Cyberpunk 2077 all that well.

I've seen the recommended system specs and to me it seems a bit lenient. But that could mean a couple of different things, for one, it could be very well optimized or you could be suffering from framerate drops more often then not.

If you're fine with that I'd say go for it. Its a quality card. On the other hand I would say wait a bit for the newer GPU's. When the initial hype is over and the price drops a bit they could be reasonably affordable. But its all up to you.

If I may ask, what's the asking price for GTX 1660 Super?

So in Turkey GTX 1660 Super is 2400TL. Which is one month salary :P. For most games I'm okay at high settings 50-60 fps. But I have saw a video on the youtube, a korean guy playing battlefield v with GTX 1660 Super and i7 6700 he get 90 fps on low settings. Which he should get at the ultra settings. Thats why I'm bit confused.

And the new GPU's with the new extended tax. They are really impossible for now.

That's really steep. If its one month salary the asking price is ridiculously high. Then again, the new ones will be really high priced in your country if that's the case.

In regards to the Korean guy getting 90 fps on the low preset, that could be a couple of things. Low RAM speed or not enough of it, the other thing is that China, Vietnam, Korea and Taiwan make these knock-off GPU's and CPU's which always underperform to their real counterparts which ironically are also manufactured in those same country's.

Yes it is really ridiculosly high. I hope that is the case for Korean guy :D. Really thank you for all answer. I will give more information tomorrow when I get the card. Thank you, stay safe!

No problem. I would love to hear how it works out and how it performs for you.

Update

I got the card today and here is the results for 3 game. All settings at the highest at possible. 1080p. FPS is average,

Battlefield V - 65
Metro Exodus - 60
Assassin's Creed Odyssey - 50

Metro and Assassin's Creed better than expected. Battlefield V is fine I think.

FPS doesn't tell you much other than FPS, hows GPU usage looking and cpu usage, is it all running smooth no hitching.

Oh I forgot that part yes. I didn't check usage but all smooth. I can tell that. Only in Battlefield 5 if rtx enabled it is little suffering. But without rtx all smooth

Here is sneaky update about bottleneck. Yes I have encountered it in some games. Battlefield 5 singleplayer, GTA 5, COD WW2 Singleplayer, Hitman 2. All of them are playable when I enable vsync but if I don't they are stuttering like crazy (except for GTA 5).

So, any advise would be welcome. I'm planning to buy 2K monitor some months later.

Thanks.

This is where opinions differ, for me personally if a GPU is being bottlenecked it won't stutter but hitching I experienced in bfv 3 times with the old fx/gtx1070.

Fc5 as hard as the gtx1070 was cpu bottlenecked %60 at times the game still ran smoothly.

Most of the singplayer games I tested I have encountered both actually. In COD WW2 GPU was over %40-60 and it was 120 fps. But I couldn't play it because of drops and hitching. I didn't test Fc 5 but it will probably be same.

My solutions is play the games that requires more gpu. At least until buying 2k.

And which is annoying me is I can't find any options in the msi afterburner for forcing gpu to %100. I don't know is it possible but if it not, than lol.
