Point and click / JRPG on Macbook retina 12inch 2016
Hi,

I'm considering buying a macbook retina 12inch 2016 with a core m5 and HD 515 GPU.

I am fully aware that this is not a gaming machine and it is not the reason I'm considering buying it.
I also know that for the price, there are better ones in the PC world, but I rather work on mac system (so not to start a discussion on what pc or why pc is better than mac for gaming :) )
However, I would be curious to see what kind of games I could be running smoothly on this machine.

For this macbook, I wonder if I could play the following games or similar ones:
- Book of unwritten tales 1 & 2,
- Deponia saga,
- Syberia 1 & 2,
- Monkey islands series,
- Any other point and click of that genre.

- and also maybe some old JRPG like Final Fantasy 8 & 9, Ys or some tactical JRPG.

Anyone has any feedback on the playability of those kind on the aforementioned pc? (running on mac, I do not intend to have it on windows, I have a workstation for that).

Thanks in advance.

Those are really low spec games, and shouldn't have problem playing those games. Might also have to run Wine to play, if they don't support Mac OS, or Boot camp.

Also, it must be a really good dirt cheap price, if you're going after Macbook, or unless someone getting it for you for free, then it's a good deal. Not saying anything wrong wiht Macbook's, just that Apple has a Rep of over pricing things by 2x - 4x than it's really worth, compare to everyone else.

Thanks for your answer.
That's good news for those games.

Regarding the choice of mac and its price, that is highly opinionated. I reckon that is expansive, there is not much to debate on this point. After, it all comes down to the pleasure you have using a pc. I have been working on both a windows and a mac pc for years, and I always enjoyed much more working with the mac. Now that I'm a freelance, I can choose my own OS, and I prefer mac.

Granted a pc like the dell XPS 13 could be a really good choice (there is nowhere where it could be tested where I live, as opposed to mac), If I would go for this one, I would run a dual boot with a linux distro as expect for gaming I really don't like windows. But again, it is a personal taste and I understand others could disagree or have different opinion :)

If that's all you're going to be running, then by all means go with the Mac. You only really need a Windows/Desktop PC if you're going for maximum performance, Mac and laptops are fine for indie stuff and older games.

You could also run some emulators *ePSXe works on mac* to play some good old JRPG as well on the Mac, again might need Wine or Boot camp for some of the emulators.

Overall, Mac books are great for a lot of things, such as long battery life, build quality, weight / portability, rendering software, and many other little things.

Also I could recommend Ubuntu for Linux for all your needs, if you wanted to boot camp.
