Oculus Rift HDMI cable
I am thinking about getting an Oculus Rift CV1 however my GTX 980 only has 1 dvi, 3 mini displayports and 1 mini hdmi port available. I'm assuming that the kit only comes with a hdmi cable, so would the best way to go about it to buy something like this for adaqute bandwidth? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-DisplayPort-Supports-displays-3840x2160/dp/B00S0BWR2K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1478308517&sr=8-4&keywords=mini+displayport+to+hdmi+4k

A DisplayPort to HDMI adapter wouldn't really give you any sort of bandwidth advantage. Unless your HDMI port is already in use and you can't use one of the other ports for a monitor/TV, getting that adapter won't really do anything for you over using the already-existing HDMI port.

Which 980 do you have? None I've seen have "Mini" ports on them.

Yes that linked adapter should be fine then.
Once you get such an adapter, plug an HDMI Display into the adapter and test each of the GPU-side DP ports to ensure they all work.
