so basically should support i5 3330,3350,3450/70,3550/70
Also:
Your mainboard is not capable of holding any better CPUs. You would have to seriously overpay for an used CPU because that Generation is 6 years old. And then you could run into trouble because the mainboard seems sketchy, it could produce problems with a better cpu.
I would suggest upgrading to i3-6300 + 8GB (2x4) DDR4 3000Mhz + new board.

1. You can't use AMD on a Intel Motherboard.
2. Your system is really out of date, and price to upgrade the CPU is about $220 and $400 on Amazon.
i5-3550 $220

I7-3770 $400

Intel actually works better for gaming purposes anyways - as they redesign both motherboard+cpu to work together in generations (allowing more direct access between cpu to memory as well as cpu to graphic processing).
I believe your currently motherboard Gateway DX4870 (depending on model) would be Intel B75 Express chipset.
Therefore it would require an Intel CPU (3rd Generation - Ivy Bridge)
CPU socket type: Socket 1155
The fastest processors would be the... Intel Core i7-3770K
(Approx 20-35% more performance in comparison)
You would get way more performance out of a newer graphics card for gaming purposes.
GTX 750 Ti vs GTX 1060 (Approx 231% more performance in comparison or 365% if GTX 1070)
However, to do that, you would also most likely need a new PSU (power supply unit) and room in the PC case available for it.
I would suggest investing in a new PC build (6th Generation - Intel Skylake) with a high end graphics card... depending on your budget. In the long run, it would be much less headache with the bottleneck and limitations of your existing system being upgraded. Depending on how must performance you need and the target resolution.
i5 3570 there about $100 used on ebay and will be faster than fx-6300 and i3 6100
The 3470 is also cheapish for a drop in upgrade ^.
its going from a 55w cpu to a 77w cpu on a b75 mobo it can handle it.. in fact they have gateway computers with this model number that have i5 3330 stock in them
https://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-dx4870-ur23p-core-i5-3470-3-2-ghz-8-gb-1-tb/prices/
Depends on the variant, so OP needs to nail it down a little better.
yeah but they all use the same b75 mobo just diff model number after dx4870 for computer for diff cpu,ram etc.
yes its compatible with i5 series.. not sure about i7... but i5 yes
If you have a good budget, then I would just build a new PC, keep the HDD, sell whatever you can sell.
If your budget's low then yeah, I would replace the CPU with the i5 that is compatible for your mobo.
