Cannot switch audio tracks during playback with new BD drive
I just bought a BD drive and to replace my DVD drive with. DVDs that would previously allow me to switch audio tracks during playback will not allow me to do so anymore. Either nothing will happen despite being given the option within the menu of the player I'm using (Windows Media Player Classic) or I don't even get the option to change them in the first place (CyberLink PowerDVD).

Any ideas? Do I need some more codecs or whatever? I haven't tried removing the BD drive and installing the DVD drive again, but if that's what it takes I'll probably stick with the BD and accept that I cannot switch audio tracks "on-the-fly".

Also, do I understand right that I cannot play BD discs with anything but CyberLink PowerDVD due to copy protection? Media Player Classic will just tell me that it cannot render the file if I try to open a BD disc with it.

I also updated MPC, but I'm not sure if that caused it. I don't have an installer of the previous version at hand.

Try VLC player. Plays DVDs fine even on a BD drive.

As for blurary films I followed the guide below
http://www.techisky.com/how-to/play-blu-ray-with-vlc-media-player-in-windows8.html

That guide solved some issues preventing Bluray discs from playing but I found newer releases wouldn't play. Only work around I found for the content that wouldn't play was to RIP it to an .mkv file. Not the best solution but VLC can actually play it.

Thanks, I don't mind playing the BDs with CyberLink PowerDVD per se, but I'd love to be able to switch the audio track during playback. I can do that with DVDs being played through VLC, but apparently not with BDs that I am forced to watch through CyberLink PowerDVD. I don't think the hassle is gonna be worth it. If I'm really curious I guess I'm gonna watch the BD with audio track (A) first and afterwards with audio track (B). Or I'm gonna try run it simulatenously (two tasks of CyberLink PowerDVD) with each audio track respectively. Can that be harmful for the BD drive? I did so with a DVD just now comparing audio and video quality of two different players. I didn't see any issues, but I don't wanna fry the drive or something like that.

VLC is really the best option out there.

Running it from the drive twice could cause performance issues, stuttering. Whether or not it has issues or not the drive will not damaged attemtping or succeeding in doing this. Basically it won't hurt to try.

I'm pretty okay with VLC so far, but when watching an episode the player will return back to the menu title too soon, like 2 seconds or so before the episode actually ends. Sometimes small bits of audio with corresponding subtitles get cut off that way. Is there a way to prevent it from doing that? MPC won't do that, which is why I have been running them simulatenously in MPC and VLC so far. I'm going through the options of VLC right now but nothing seems to help with that.
