steam is not running on dedicated gpu
i am not sure if this is the right forum but, because of that, many games running through steam is told to use the intel HD 4600 because steam itself is using that. that causes both evil genius and star wars empire at war which is normally running on my dedicated gpu in disc versions to run on the integrated gpu in the steam versions.

Go into device manager and disable the Intel HD, there shouldn't be a reason you need it turned on if you are using a dedicated GPU

i have tried that and the result is that because of optimus requiring both, disabling the intel one also disables the nvidia one. games that ran on the nvidia gpu before i disabled the intel gpu then runs on default gpu drivers in windows which is even worse.

Looks like this should help http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2615/~/how-do-i-customize-optimus-profiles-and-settings%3F not used Optimus myself but looks like you can force it to use the dedicated GPU on a per-application basis

thats a laptop right? you should be able to go into the nvidia control panel, click 3d settings, then click the tab to the right of the global one, then click add. find the exe of the games you have and click ok. now in the drop down box, choose "high performance nvidia processor" and click apply. this should force the game to use the nvidia gpu.
i have tried that as well. steam`s preferences takes priority over nvidia control panel`s preferences. i have even tried to set nvidia control panel to run steam on the dedicated gpu but not even that helps. found out that steam was already set to use the nvidia gpu. warcraft 3 world editor runs on the gtx 770m at this very moment.

The I-GPU can not be disabled in a modern laptop. And even if you could your shoudn't, the dedicated GPU will eat your battery for breakfast.

my battery is broken so battery power does not matter. the integrated gpu can be disabled but that prevents the dedicated one from working so no games using direct 3d works. 2d games like transport tycoon works though but that is not really helping. your picture is not helping me as i already know. it might help others though.

I can also unplug the power cable from my desktop, doesn't mean it will work after I have done that. Disabling the I-GPU in a laptop via the device manager (Which is the only way disabling it that does not involve a hammer) will simply switch the laptop to software rendering mode making it dirt slow and forcing it to a low resolution. Your comment is making me doubt you "already know"'.

1.Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel by right clicking on your desktop and clicking on "NVIDIA Control Panel".

2. In the default screen that pops up (it should be "manage 3D settings", and the "Program Settings" tab should be automatically selected), under "1. Select a program to customize:" hit the "Add" button.

3. From here, navigate to the folder where your Steam games are located. Example C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common.

4. Select the folder for the game you want to use your NVIDIA card for, and find the .exe for that game (it's usually right in the main game folder). Select it, and hit open.

5. Then, under "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:" open the drop-down menu and select "High-performance NVIDIA processor".

6. Finally, hit apply in the far bottom right corner, and you should be good to go.
i know that as i have already tested it. the games that now runs on the integrated gpu through steam runs on the dedicated gpu if i run the disc versions of them. steam itself runs on the integrated gpu.

insteam normal steam (not snap)
start->Games->steam->"right click and edit application"->application tab->
advanced options->untick "run using dedicated graphics card"

using KUBUNTU, it will run.
