4k @ 60HZ W/ HDR
So I have HDR capable tv which supports everything yada yada yada. My issue at the moment is that I can only select chroma 422 10 bit or RGB 8 bit full at 30hz while at 4k. If i switch to 60Hz nvidia control panel locks me to chroma 420 at 8 bit limited which does not meet HDR10 requirements. My GPU is hooked up to my TV via a DP1.2 to HDMI 2.0 cable adapter paired to a hdmi 2.0 cable that goes to the tv. My question at the end of the day is, if I upgrade to a DP1.4 Male with HDMI 2.1 female adapter and get a male to male HDMI 2.1 cable will Nvidia control panel stop locking me out or will this make no difference? I am aware that at 4k 60hz the HDMI 2.0 cables cannot carry enough bandwidth to run that resolution and refresh rate and have HDR on top of it. I njust want to know if upgrading to cables that can handle it will permit me to select these options

I've always gone straight HDMI from the graphics card to the receiver and then receiver out to the TV. I briefly tried going straight HDMI to the TV when Nvidia added support for adaptive sync over HDMI (my TV supports Freesync) but that didn't work out so well.

You need a gpu with hdmi 2.1 and use that cable, nothing else. Also most tvs, only one of the ports is going to allow that 60hz at 4K.

It depends on the connections on the graphics card and TV more than the cable. If the TV only has HDMI 2.0 ports it won't matter if the cable going into it is certified HDMI 2.1.

The best you can do at HDMI 2.0 is 4k 60Hz 10bit 4:2:2.

at 60 HZ 4k at the moment im only permited YCC 4:2:0 limited at 8 bits. Ill see if i can find info on my tv although I beleive my GPU should be capable, its a Titan Xp

unfortunately my HDMI tv ports are all 2.0 Although all of them allow me to run 4k 60Hz, my issue is running it with HDR on top of it.

Thats too old. HDMI 2.1 is required which is only on gtx 16xx, rtx 20xx, Titan RTX

I'm pretty sure that the highest HDMI on a GPU is 2.0b.

Well if my TV supported HDMI 2.1 id be able to work around that so long as DP 1.4 had the badnwidth to carry 4k with HDR at 60hz. I'm using a DP to HDMI adapter as is for my TV because the HDMI port I have to dedicate to my AV receiver in order to get full 7.1. I could get a DP1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter then run the HDMI 2.1 cable from the adapter to the TV if it was capable of receiving it that bandwidth through its HDMI ports which unfortunately mine isnt.

No its hdmi 2.1
It's on the gpu families I stated above. Google search takes just seconds of your life to find this out.

Just because DP could work, does not mean adapter between DP to HDMI 2.1 will.

Even with a gtx 16 or rtx 20, you have to flash update it for hdmi 2.1

Best bet is avoid TV and use a 4K monitor and use DP. Overall, 1440p at 144hz + is the better choice

I like having the size of a TV and 4k resolution because my rig is not solely for gaming, I also use it for movies etc, and the massive screen is better for sim racers and flight sims. My theory because the Titan Xp can support DP1.4 the adapter could serve as a method of extracting that high bandwidth information from the GPU and sending it into HDMI 2.1 so I could output it on a display that does not have DP but does have HDMI support (obviously it would have to support 2.1). Makes sense no?
Well you better off using a hdmi 2.1 cable, regardless. No adapters, otherwise the gpu and tv might not be able to crosstalk properly.

Also try other hdmi ports, usually only the first or last hdmi port on a higher end tv would allow for the higher end output options.
