Only 74 hz on a 75 hz monitor through displayport cable?
Is this normal? Even in some games I can only choose 74.91 hz instead of 75 hz. Through HDMI I can choose 75 hz and it also shows 75 hz in windows when using HDMI. Through DP it shows 74 hz in windows. Kinda weird, I thought DP is the better choice for higher hz...

That is still just 75hz either way. Just like some games would perhaps show 59, 60 as options on a 60hz display. Just ignore it. Check your amd or nvidia control panel and ensure os desktop is set to 75. Then just run games in borderless windowed mode and this means the gane will always use the desktop refresh rate

DP only matters for multi display setups or for displays that have 100 hz or higher

I prefer DP because it has a secure click into place connection at both ends

Okay, thanks for the answer, Motha. =)

I also prefer dp since most gpu offer 3x dp and 1x hdmi, leaving my hdmi free for my vr headset or hdtv

I have 2 HDMI and 2 DP on my GPU and 1 DP and 2 HDMI on my monitor.

Refresh rate isn't something that is a 'fixed' value, it does change (albeit ever so slightly), and that 0.10hz difference is nothing. It will be imperceptable.

If you look in Windows display settings, you'll see your display as 74hz.
And if you run blurbusters refresh rate test, you'll get 74.9xxxhz.

It doesn't matter though, nothing bad will come of it.
However, if you are that worried, create a custom resolution in NVCP and make the refresh rate 75hz or something like that.
(Or you could overclock the monitor, though it could brick the monitor, or cause some display issues if you don't properly test it.)

Yeah, for some reason I can't get anything over 75 hz when trying to overclock my monitor. Not even 76 hz. Which is kinda weird as I've been able to overclock older monitors just fine. But I'm not that tech savvy anyways.

I would just get a decent 144, 165, 240 hz display if you want a good one. 75hz was ok for better ips screens but it does not really help much, especially in gaming.

Most of my asus 60hz 1080p screens I had no problems OCING to somewhere round 80-85 hz, however it never reflected any real world improvement unlike a decent display that actually offer 100hz or higher.

Well I notice quite an improvement going from 60 hz to 75 hz but yeah, a 100+ hz monitor would probably be a much better choice.

Do note, the higher the refresh rate the less the gains over previous.
For instance, 60 to 75 is noticeable, but 200 to 240 isn't really noticeable.
But 60/75 to 144 would be night and day difference.

Yeah, my friend has a 144 hz display and it's silky smooth. =D
