New HDD not showing up (SOLVED)
Just replaced my old HDD and even installed an SSD m.2 along with it. I just put windows on the SSD and when I go to file manager the HDD doesn't show up at all, only the SSD.

Solutions?

Did you format the HDD? Look it up in Disk Management and format it if not.

Well it's not showing up at all as if it's not even installed. I have been playing around with the internal connections and it still won't show up

Is it plugged into a SATA port that is being disabled by the m.2 drive?

If your expectation is that an un-formatted drive is going to show up in the file manager you'll be waiting a long time.

Or are you saying that the drive isn't visible in the Disk Management tool or even in the BIOS?

You sure the drive isn't connected to a disabled port?

That's what I am trying to find out right now. I would assume I would switch the connection on the motherboard to any new slot?

Not any. I think m.2 disables two. But some of them should work unless all working ones ate being used already.

I see. Do you know how to check which ones are blocked? Or is this just a guessing game until I get it?

Depending on the exact details of the motherboard, which we don't have, an m2 slot can disable SATA ports. But plenty of motherboards have multiple m2 ports and typically one runs of PCI-E and doesn't touch SATA ports, and the 2nd one will typically disable SATA ports.

So, the question becomes, what motherboard does the OP have AND which m2 slot did he use? And that will tell us whether SATA slots are disabled.

Refer to your motherboard manual...

All u ever have to is go to the bios, if the sata drive isn't showing up, put it on a different sata port until it does.

Never install the os with extra drives present, cause it will attach itself to those as well.

you need to press windows key

type "disk manag"

choose "create and format hard disk partitions"

When it opens you will (likely) get a popup to intialize MBR and format.

It should show up in bios and device manager firstly though
