Is this FPS normal for Gtx1050 Ryzen 5 3500U?
Hi folks,

I bought a new laptop two days ago and its CPU and GPU are as title says, also its 8GB Ram and 512 SSD

In CSGO (and Valorant) I put settings medium or low but FPS doesn't seem to reflect what my specs should get me? Mid-rounds its mostly ranging from 70-90 sometimes crossing 110 (in both games) but also sometimes dropping to 60/50.

I tried most things (PCI set to MAx performance, updated drivers) to no avail

Another weird thing is that whether I set settings to low or high it has little effect on FPS and that I tried OSD using Afterburner usually GPU is barely used (20% max) but I get into games (Its used more in training lobbies or in the game menus, up to 30/40%)

Any ideas?

What more do you want? It's a low end laptop

1050 is good for 900p and lower. Don't use 1080p, GTX 1050 will not perform well (if you laptops supports 1080p.)

Plus CSGO is a CPU intensive game, your CPU should be fine and it should be letting the 1050 reach its full potential. But yet again the 1050 will be the limiting factor

My previous laptop of 4 years old and gtx 950M and i7 4750hq can equally run csgo at 80fps WDYM? I expect this new one to get me 150 on med to low settings I think its doable (a friend of mine has same GPU and gets 150+ on valorant Med)
You answered your own question

Changing settings doesnt budge FPS much meaning a bottleneck or Windows config issues

Just be happy you're getting the FPS you have, it could be worse. All in all you're expecting more from that laptop just because its newer when a budget laptop is still a budget laptop no matter how good the specs seem. id say those are good results regardless.

The other thing is what RAM the laptop is using
Ryzens love high freq RAM so that could also be a cause.

I'm not familiar with CS:GO, other than that it is apparently a CPU heavier game than GPU, but the advances in CPU IPC have sort of tapered off a bit since around the times of Sandy Bridge, and a worthwhile portion of the advances in IPS are coming from the clock speed increases relative to CPUs half a decade ago. You went from a Haswell era quad core (2 GHz boosting to 3.2 GHz) to a Zen+ (not Zen 2) quad core (2.2 GHz boosting to 3.7 GHz, although I'm using 3500U numbers as I'm finding nothing on a 3600U existing). In IPC alone, this was never going to be a massive gain. Ryzen caught AMD up to Intel and was around par with Haswell to Skylake (the original) in general if I am remembering right. Depending on how high each CPU was actually boosting for you (which is reliant on thermals and number of cores under load) will impact the actual average clock speed difference/gain you got. Overall, this should have given a slight but nice bump, but expecting double was setting expectations a bit high.

Add to this that, while more modern AMD CPUs are pretty fast too, Intel does still perform slightly better (although I read a comment saying CS:GO tends to prefer Ryzen over recent Intel CPUs, but I can't comment there).
