Question for mechanical keyboard users.

Which switch type do you prefer, and why? Clicky (blues, tactile (browns) or linear (reds).

What about non-physical keyboards? With everyone extra-concerned about sanitized surfaces, has anyone tried a laser keyboard for gaming? Do precise WASD controls work without tactile feedback?

I considered one ages ago but even before nerve damage numbed the tactile sensation in my left fingers I'd still want to able to touch the keys. Being able to feel the raised line on the bottom of the F and J keys with my forefingers to know exactly where my fingers are. Without being able to feel those I'd have had to spend more time looking at my keyboard when typing......

Main reason I can't get on with the gaming keyboards that have the extra macro buttons to the left edge. Little finger being on Left Ctrl is now my main source of tactile sensation to identify were my fingers are. As fingers drift left overtime I find myself hitting the wrong keys cause my little finger is on a macro button (unassigned) but I think it's on Ctrl and press the wrong keys.

Back on OT from Cherrys MX I prefer Red with O rings. No idea if they're best I just preferred the feel. I tried Logitech Romer G for a week and wasn't a fan. Though I have recently tried their lower profile keys. G815 and G915 range. Wired G815 and the wireless G915 are a no go for me due to the macro keys on the left edge. Looking at wireless G915 TKL with Tactile switches right now. Hoping for offer as they are rather pricey. Everywhere seem out of stock right now anyway. 40hr battery life with RGB at 100% brightness which is pretty good for a wireless keyboard with RGB.

I find the noise really annoying and I am not alone in that you see countless thousands of posts of forums from people trying to fit "o" rings and so on to their keyboard. There are only two for me. Romer-G and Cherry Silent Red. Cherry Silent Red can be difficult to find ( Fnatic offer them ) and Romer-G, well, fantastic but I find they break too easily. I absolutely love my Logitech 613 but only after a month or so of use. The Romer-G keys suck because they lack compatibility but I found that my 3D printer can usually re-create any that come loose. (Ive had to replace 3 since a year of usage)

Unlike purchasing a classic car these days. I grew up on a mech board, it's only fitting to still use one. The main issue I had was I needed wireless which is pretty rare, hench my G613 purchase.

My keyboard was $80 when I got it about 8 years ago. One of the best investments I've made as it's still going strong. Cherry MX Blues. Awesome for typing, serviceable for gaming (although there are better switches for that)

I just got a second keyboard to try out today but this one is low-profile, also with red switches and because of the shorter bottom out distance it does feel so much more comfortable to type on the low-profile switches not just because of that but also because of the shorter height overall. I do hope low profile becomes more popular so there are more switch options available soon, even thought these reds actually feel pretty good, maybe even better with some o-rings? I'll give that a shot next.

Cherry mx speed/Kailh silver speed switches. It's linear like mx reds but a lot more sensitive/responsive on a key press with the lower actuation which can be a love or hate affair for some but to me it's a way better mx red for sure.

A low profile red, with 1.2mm actuation and 3mm overall travel distance is already pretty much a speed switch and low profile reds are what I am testing on the keyboard I just got today. I really like them a lot. I am sure they're good for gaming, but these are really damn good for typing as well.

I've got a WASD Code keyboard. Green Cherry switches. I beat the hell out of my keyboard and came from a Unicomp Buckling Spring to this, it was the closest I could find. Def heavy keys with click and feedback.

Cherry brown... I was very long on the fence about forking the money for a mechanical keyboard (K95).

But I'm really happy I did it much much much better then membrane keyboard
