Help with upgrading Dell Optiplex 3010 MT
Hi. Awhile ago I bought a upgraded Optiplex 3010 with the following specs:

Dell Optiplex 3010 MT
Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz(4 CPUs)
8GB Ram
NVidia GeForce GT 610

I'm using a BenQ GL2460 just so you know.

I want to upgrade it to a higher graphics card but am not sure what would be compatible. I have seen some videos but want an official answer if specific parts are right and some suggestions on what to get.

see this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q8DaxWe1LM

I want to just play games like Minecraft(HD) Maybe Skyrim SE and Batman Arkham games (already run OK) and stuff like that while recording with Camtasai.

I'm sorry if I havn't supplied enough information as I am not an expert.

I have seen things like from that video I posted above about getting graphics cards. My big question is, what to I need to check for when getting the graphics card to be compatible?
My motherboard has a PCI-Express x16 slot

So what I need to check is the
Power Supply,
If it connects to x16
If it fits in the case?

Is that all? I'm trying to spend around $150 for my graphics card but if there is one just a bit more expensive then I'd pay the extra for the big one up.

All the help is super appreciated!

I'd look for a GPU that requires no external power connection (it would run off of the PCI-e slot alone) such as a GTX 1650. The system will pretty much hold you back from getting ideal performance in more demanding titles that need more RAM and CPU cores, so bear that in mind as well.

I'd be fine with upgrading the power supply (since thats what I was assuming anyways)
I purchased teh Optiplex for about $80 so i'm trying to work my way up. Iv'e seen forums like this as well. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/dell-optiplex-3010-graphics-card-upgrade.3017635/

Like I said in the above post, I'd be fine doing what the guy in the video did:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q8DaxWe1LM

Just I want to make sure all the parts are compatible. In the description of his video he has a list of compatible graphics cards. Are these actually compatible with what he did?

All that actually matters is:
1. PSU has enough wattage to power the whole system, with enough leftover power (you do not want your system to use 100% of the available wattage) if the installed PSU only has around 300W, you won't get away with more than a 1650 SUPER.
2. The card actually fits in the case

If the PSU is actually only 235W as the guy in the video says, don't even put a 1650 in there without upgrading the PSU.

These are purely examples, I'm not telling you to buy these:

Sapphire RX 5500XT

EVGA 1650 Super

Cheapo OK quality Seasonic 400W PSU
https://www.newegg.com/seasonic-ss-400et-bronze-400w/p/N82E16817151076

Seasonic 550W PSU

If budget allows, you could add more GPU horsepower, but other bits of the system are the bottleneck here in terms of performance. I wouldn't really recommend spending a lot of money on upgrading this system, its window of acceptable gaming performance is closing or closed depending on how old the game is.

Nono yes I know that I have to replace the PSU. I bought a 600W EVGA so that I can use it in future builds. Also I bought the MSI GTX 1650 4GB Low profile graphics card!

Low profile was unneccessary unless you're planning on going to a slimboii computer case in the future, that mini tower doesn't require it.

I’m using a Dell optiplex Mini tower. (Looks like the size of a regular desktop.) and that is the latest graphics card people say will fit. I cannot fit anything past the ram slots (7 in.) because I think it’ll hit them. So I can only do low profile.

You already bought the card, so at this point it's academic, but my eyes might be playing tricks on me. I thought the video showed the expansion slots at the rear weren't half height.

What's preventing anything longer than 7" from going in the case, is it the HDD mount in the front?
Denzity 2020 年 8 月 13 日 下午 5:41
I assumed it would hit the ram, no?
Cave Yeti Supreme 2020 年 8 月 13 日 下午 5:46
Nope, the PCIe slots aren't in line with the DIMM slots. If the motherboard in that system has a PCIe slot "high" enough that a direct horizontal line drawn across the entire board intersects any DIMM slot, it's violating the ATX specification and Intel would have words for Dell considering not only is ATX Intel's specification, ultimately it's their product that's slotted into it and making them look bad by screwing up on something as fundamental as making sure your expansion slots don't negatively interact with other required fundamentals of the spec.

the ram does not interfere with gpus, looks close but it will fit gpus as long as the case will support

it looks to be a standarad atx layout, you can move it to a full size atx case to put in any current gpu
