PCI-e is backwards compatible. a 4.0 card will work in a 2.0 slot for example.
That was fast °-°. Also thank you so much! But Iam curious, how / where can you see the version?
The version can be seen in a free utility called hwinfo.
Usually you can find this information on the product page of the motherboard manufacturer. With your Medion motherboard this information is indeed hard to find online since the board does not have a product page. This is often the case with OEM boards.
Make sure your PSU is powerful enough to run the new GPU and that it has all connectors it needs. Medion cheaps out on everything.
Manual? Or even without that the fact you have a Gtx 1060 and they are PCI-e 3.0 the same as RTX cards
I thought the PCI-e is based on the Motherboard?
So a rtx 2070 super from Gigabyte needs 650 watt for example?
Like Omega stated the bigger concern is whther the PSU can power it and has the required connection for it.
I wouldn't be suprised if this prebuild includes a 350w PSU or something weird like that. It might also lack the extra power cables the 2070 needs. The 2070 needs a 6pin and an 8pin PCI-e power connectors, your current 1060 likely only has a single 6 or 8pin.
OP mention a 2070 Super and they require 2 x 8pin power connectors....least mine does.
That's for the correction on my correction lol. Always forget stuff like that if I've only read it once. Will try and remember this time
2nd gen i5 (1155) or later are 3.0
any am4 (ryzen) or later are 3.0
only the bottom end chipsets (bxx10 intel or a amd) may have a 2.0 slot
but they are also forward and backward compatible with most pci-e gpus
some older boards will need a bios update for later gpus
I took a look inside, its a "fsp450-50amdn" PSU, and yes my 1060 only has a 6pin PCI-e connectors. So I need a better PSU, an extra power cable, and judging by the way everything is built in, I need someone to rebuild it from scratch and rewire everything cause there is probably no way the rtx 2070 super will fit in there since i just measured it...
Thanks for the help everyone! I'll think I'll need to contact the nearest electronics store for help. Someone who can take a look and tell me if its actually worth the extra cost and or whether something like that would even be possible :(
