New to building PCs, so I need some help with a VR/Family build (Includes List)
At the moment, I haven't ordered any parts and I've used a website to figure a parts list and price range. My max budget for the PC is $1200, but I want to scale that list down to about $850 or less if I can while maintaining quality. My build baseline question is "Can it run Half-Life Alyx?"

I should note that my brothers (James and David) also gave their input on what sort of parts I need and I've been recommended videos to watch and pay attention to, most of them for a guy called Joey Delgado. I just want complete picture on what I should do.

This is the Design/Parts Document I put together, taking into account what I want Vs. what I've found so far. I also decided to include my Laptop specs to give you an Idea of what I'm used to.

Get a Ryzen 3600 and B450 motherboard should save you a good chunk of money.

Here is a build list to give you some idea. Just under $1000.

Seems affordable enough, but I think we could go cheaper in the graphics card department. What do you think of the Ryze RX590 or GTX 1660?

Dont go cheap with the graphics card for VR unless you want to ride the vomit comet.

If you must choose between the two, go with GTX1660. But they are kinda at the minimum required for Half-Life Alyx, not really ideal. What about RX 5600 XT? It's at least GTX 1660Ti performance, most of the time more close to RTX2060.
I personally would rather cope with a 4C8T CPU (for example R3 3300X) than cheap out on graphics card.

Forget GTX 1660, it`s older tech with slower GDDR5 memory, if you want to go cheaper then at least GTX 1660 Super that has faster GDDR6 memory.

Okay, so go big or go home on the graphics card is what I'm hearing. Got it.

I noticed that you both didn't add a cooling system to your builds. I'm guessing the case comes with a basic fan?

CPU comes with a stock cooler with thermal paste applied in the box.

Stock cooler is usable. If you prefer quieter, a $20 cooler is all you need. Case also comes with two fans.

This stuff is either outdated or too weak for VR.

I noticed. The $600 dollar build might as well be my laptop.

For vr, i wouldnt consider any gpu with less than 8gb of vram
