Laptop GPU stuck at 400MHz
Whenever I launch a video game, the loading screen and menu have low GPU usage and high clock speeds, then when I'm in the game GPU runs at 400MHz at 99% usage.

I can't play any video games because they are really laggy, all power saving settings are turned off, unless I missed one. nVidia Control Panel is set to Maximum Performance.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

rtx 2060. Which should be same as yours in performance. My laptop is Alienware m17.

there isnt any setting in NVidia Control Panel. In Windows Power Options the obvious settings. For me its all in Alienwares Command Center.

May i add you so i can show you the screenshots? in case you want to compare settings

Are you folks brand new to PCs?
On Laptops you will always have a hybrid gpu system, Intel + Nvidia. You need to make the NVIDIA the default gpu in Nvidia Control panel, manage 3d settings, Global

you clearly dont have a laptop.

I use them everyday. I'm one right now and it has all these aettings. Every Nvidia gpu laptop has been this way.

Sounds like you need to wipe out all the Intel and Nvidia stuff with DDU and go install the official drivers from Intel and Nvidia so you have everything you should. If you let Windows Updates install drivers, well then that right there is probably what your issues are because those won't be correct odlr fully feature packed.

i can only set a few things in Nvidia control panel.

On desktop there are tons of options. Not on laptop.

also for you OP here are some screenies how i have things

i dont bother with game profiles, I stopped adding games to Command Center (I am way to lazy for that stuff XD).

I usually play with 'balanced' profile for all games. If i need i can use 'performance'. Even with more powersaving profiles then balanced my GPU clock goes over 1400MHZ easy.

uhmmm what i try to say is before you go wipe all drivers and such look for the right options first <3 I have no idea what i am doing but if you want we can compare settings your wonder (in windows and such)

what GPU do you have? my laptop has a gtx 1070 and it should go up to 1683MHz, but instead just going between 800-1000MHz

Actually i am not running in fully performance mode because it kicks in turbo boost and my CPU goes 4GHZ making it too damn hot to have on my lap XD.
lol, i wouldnt mind seeing the screenshots, sounds helpful, i accepted

@𝑛𝑜99 ❥ B⎀nshee:
I can see clearly from the first image that you posted you're not even in the correct setting group.

You need to go to the Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings tab and look there for power options.

Typically there should be (even on laptops) 'Power Management' and for laptops only there will be Preferred GPU - This option needs to be set to your Nvidia GPU and not Integrated or Auto.

I'm not sure you have the correct drivers, you seem to have a developer mode which shouldn't be available.

Make sure you've installed the Game Ready drivers and not the Studio Ready drivers.

Scroll down in that window and find Power Management > Set this to prefer Maximum Performance OR Adaptive.

There should be another setting called Preferred GPU > Set this to the Nvidia GPU.

Some other settings to consider for the G-Sync side of things:

Set Low Latency Mode to Ultra.

Cap the Framerate to 60.

Set Vsync to ON or FAST.

I don't have the "Preferred GPU" setting.

"Prefer Maximum Performance" for some strange reason caps my GPU at 400MHz. If set to Optimal or Adaptive it runs at 800-1000MHz, still far under base clock.

The driver installed is the latest Nvidia Game Ready Driver for GTX 1070.

VSync is ON, Low Latency is On and frames are uncapped.

When I got my laptop I uninstalled a lot of bloatware. I highly doubt this is the cause of the issue because it worked fine for a long time until a couple months ago. But it definitely could be. I have no idea what would cause the full Nvidia Control Panel though, unless that is normal for this laptop.

which setting would that be? Also it came like this from Dell. I never tampered with anything

OMG so many options. I am so glad i dont have those :pisang: (kidding, how you get those?)

Also did you consider calling ASUS? With Dell they remote check things and guide you through stuff.

It's definitely not normal, I have a laptop with a 980m and I could always pick a preferred GPU, it might be that de-bloating has messed up somehow (had a similar issue with an HP laptop).

It's drastic but I would see if you can create a media stick for Windows 10 and reinstall the os after formatting the drive.

Then download the GPU drivers from nvidia and the other required stuff from MSI but don't install any of their 'helpful' engine systems they like to use.

Click the Advanced 3D Settings.

are you sure its nothing to do with you having a notebook GPU? mines just a 1070.
DarthSidious666 2020 年 7 月 19 日 上午 11:16
It's still the same thing, just that they dropped the (m) part of it, you need to download the 1070(notebook) drivers and not the 1070 or it'll go wonky as it's doing now.
